My cousin got her MD there a couple years ago, and their football team has been on my mind lately. I thought to myself, what better place to post this than on a forum dedicated to the University of Minnesota football team?

Did the Gopher ever PLAY them? Or were they ever coached by a guy who then became Gopher Head Coach? Like NIU, SIU, TCU, Kansas, Kent State, Georgia or the New York Jets? NO? Then take it to the Off-Politics Board?

How many Minnesotans were on the team? Did any of our coaches ever coach there? Did we have any recruiting battles against them? Did we beat them in a bowl over 10 years ago and now they are in BCS games every year? There has to be a tie of some sort.

It's funny you should ask - why yes, they did! The Gophers played RUMC and beat them 12-0 on October 8, 1898. I was told that any and all opponents of the Gophers (past, present, or future) are fair game for discussion on this board, and that such endeavors are not only sane and logical, but perfectly welcomed and encouraged on the 7 National Titles Football Forum. Therefore, once we've exhausted the discussion of Rush University Medical Center, I plan to start threads on Grinnell, Hamline, Carleton, and Minneapolis Central HS football as well.

Four man squad, now that's tough! Which division are they in?

It figures. We apparently only can talk about teams that BEAT the Gophers..:banghead:

Good to see that "Movember" was represented back in the day.

Aren't they a crappy FCS team?

There's medicine that can help you with these obsessive thoughts.

I have been a member of a number of sports-related boards over the years. I have never seen another one like this one, where the On-Topic Nazis patrol the board looking for things to be offended by.

I've seen footage of their unprecedented title run in 1902. Gave me goosebumps. Best of luck in their title chase this season. Hopefully they can knock off Nodak for the A-ball title.

I have no problem with a thread like this. If it isn't interesting it will die a quick death and not get any/many responses. It looks like that isn't the case so this one seems to be spawning a discussion.

Quite frankly, I often agree with your opinion on this Dpo, but at the same time this board is full of college football fans so the occasional shout out to a local school doing well, player quote, coaching move, etc. is okay in my book. When I tend to fall farther on your side of your argument is when we get the same people that seem to keep bringing up the same non-Gopher material over and over again. I've read all I care to read on NDSU football so I just avoid these threads now. I'm just not as black and white with my opinion on this stuff as you are. Given my own interest in these threads, I think it would be hard to police this to the degree you'd like to see, so my way with dealing with it is to vote with my feet and walk away from the threads that don't interest me.

I also visit other boards occasionally and the way Gopher Hole addresses these threads is similar to what I am seeing elsewhere. If they aren't interesting, they die after a post or two. Unfortunately it is just a gray line that is a little thick at times between the opinion they should be here or not. Posts on vacation trips to Alaska might be interesting too, but the line is very pronounced and thin in situations like that.

The Gophers won the game. Your negativity is affecting your reading comprehension..
