2014 being the year of the exception for Minnesota and Missouri, we are back to the standard of RPI's in the Top 50 and being big conference as a tourney bid.

This year the tournament again selected all big conference teams in the top 50 and even dropped down to RPI's with:

Purdue = 56
LSU = 58
Mississippi = RPI 60
Indiana = 61

The only Top 60 RPI school from a Big Conference that missed was Stanford at #59.
They were 5-9 against top 100 teams.. Maybe that's why they missed.

Last year we were #49, IIRC.

Yeah the Gophers were definitely top 50 because Pitino pointed out numerous times how Iowa got credit for a top 50 win by beating the Gophers, but we didn't get a top 50 win for beating them..but they made the tourney.

The Gophers had a losing record in their conference. Once in awhile they'll look past that (like they did with Illinois and Minnesota the year before because of some very significant wins by them) but .500 or better in your conference is usually the rule.

I think you're drawing the wrong conclusions. There isn't a dime's worth of difference between an RPI rank of #52 and #61. They wanted to take four teams from the PAC12 but weren't oriented toward taking more and there was a clear break between UCLA and Stanford in terms of conference winning percentage.
