I listened to Royce White on WCCO with Mike Max. I was impressed with his attitude
and some of the lessons he learned. He had great things to say about Coach Smith and the staff. I would be interested to hear others comments and impressions. It is a real shame the kid did not play this year.

I hope he decides to come back to the University of Minnesota to play hoops.

Pretty good stuff. Mike Max could have the Tubby Smith show on Mondays and

the Royce White show on Tuesdays.

He had him on for 48 minutes.

Did the hard-hitting Maxie even ask RW if he regrets quitting on the team a week before his status would have changed and he would have been eligible for probable immediate reinstatement?

Not quite. Mike was almost Royce's advocate in regards to all the misinformation and incorrect impressions of Royce.

Beware, Royce has a "documentary" planned and states we will all be surprised where he was when things were going down.

No - but hard hitting Mike asked him where he will be 10 years from now.

Actually, I enjoyed the interview after reading a lot of this stuff on the GH.

He knows his way around a microphone.

Were there any non-softball questions? Doubtful. A lot easier to look good when the interviewer is kissing your ass. Maxie is brutal. Guess I'll see if it's online somewhere.

Thanks for the warning. Is it titled "How to blow millions of dollars" or "10 strikes and yer out?"

They may have a reply of it on late tonight after midnight. Double check with
Dark Star or whoever is hosting the midnight shift.

can't you read between the lines. He wasn't going to play this year no matter what.

All of these interviews, and especially the one Royce gave in front of the courthouse today, clearly disprove this idea that he is a bumbling idiot. He may have made some poor choices, but he has proven quite competent to fend for himself. He independently handled a lot of prying, leading questions outside the courthouse today and came off as very measured and in control of his words and actions.

Max was very sympathetic towards Royce earlier this year. Not surprising he would give him a good chance for people to get to know him better.

DEFINITELY coming back

Think about it- why would White stay in school if he can't play basketball? He doesn't care about school. When I heard him completely dismiss transferring, I knew he would drop out for this semester and re-enroll when he has a chance to play bball.

Great. So, we will have many more months of this intrigue. Whatever lies ahead in his future, it may be best for Royce to lie low at least for a while.

Oh good. Royce needs to stop listening to whoever is advising him because this has got to be one of the dumbest ideas ever.

I can read between the lines, Brew, but then, just like you, Brew, I'd be speculating. Or just making things up. Like you. Brew.

Either way, Royce is a quitter. He should run for governor of Alaska.

If we are lucky Royce White will fall off the face of the planet and we will not have to hear his name anymore, Just because you come off smooth in an interview does not mean you are not foolish. I know of someone else who is good with a teleprompter. Good luck and good riddance Royce, it was nice following your Gopher caree... oh never mind.

Don't you see what's happening? This is all part of the documentary to make things interesting...Royce will be back next year...

a great storyline. The player faces adversity and becomes an NBA star :)

I think I get what you are trying to say, but looking at his body of work as a student in high school, his problems in the resident halls, shoplifting, assault, etc. I still feel safe to say he is a bumbling idiot. Don't just chalk these things up to "poor choices." When poor choices are repeated over and over, it demonstrates a serious character flaw and the inablility to acknowledge or care about right from wrong.

Does the fact that he is good at public speaking make him a good person and make him the kind of kid we want to represent the school? I will take his transcripts from DeLaSalle and his rap sheet from the police over his transcript from a WCCO interview with a butt-kisser to make that decision.

I know a girl who is 17 and is the sweetest, nicest girl you would ever want to meet. She has a million dollar smile that immediately puts you on her side. Then, I found out that she repeatedly cheats on tests at school, steals things from other students, and because of this moves from school to school due to the fact that everyone is against her and is out to get her. Her situation really mirrors this one. She is a phony and a fraud but knows how to work the system and people. I don't trust her any farther than I could throw her. I get the feeling that Tubby has had the same experience with Royce. It seems to me that the indefinite suspension probably has more information behind it than any of us know.

Does Royce have a job? What does he do during the day and night? Anyone know?

Royce - I'm all about seeing you play and the Gophers winning big. But please set some goals and meet them on your life and what your going to do from day to day. Commit yourself to a new future and go for it.

Come back a great man in the fall and your future and life will be great @ U of Minnesota.

Good luck

impressed

Royce is more well spoken to a lot of professionals that I work with. I'm impressed. Yes, he has made mistakes and handled things poorly. However, you cannot deny that he is extremely intelligent. He will be successful someday. Hoops or otherwise.

I have heard some of the current players speak before and I always think, man, if they don't make it in hoops they will not have many options if they don't finish their degree.

Not Royce.

Too bad he didn't have a mic in his face at the MOA!

I have yet to read anything close to an apology to his teammate, Coach Smith, fans and the UM. The closest is something about him being a distraction to the team. I will be surprised if there ever will be one. But it would be a step in the right direction.

No more drama, please

Tired of Royce...the interview was nothing but softballs from Max and double talk from White. I love Royce's talent but I am ready for the maroon and gold to move on. Tubby was in a box last year...he would be criticized if he didn't take Royce and he would be criticized if he did. No box anymore...plenty of reasons to let him go play for Huggins at WVU.

There is a distinct difference between someone who is an idiot and someone who quite simply has some wires crossed when it comes to right and wrong. No one who listened to the interview could say that Royce is anything but a very intelligent young man. However, he obviously has trouble discerning between right and wrong in the situations he has put himself in, and is unable to control his emotions.

Royce said he would return to the team ( today ) if Tubby asked him to but was very doubtful that Tubby would ask.

There are far too many holier than thou folks on this board. Royce didn't stab someone... yes, he made some mistakes and guess what? He paid the price by missing his entire freshman season!

If Royce somehow lands back on the Gophers next year, I hope the holier than thou crowd stops following the Gophers out of protest. Royce has paid for his sins... time to let anger go. If he makes more mistakes, he will pay the price as he already has. This is not a distraction unless you make it one.

This isn't directed at a specic post, just the prevailing mindset on the board.

With Tubby recruiting the 10's and Jirsa ( I think ) checking out JUCO players it would seem to be an indication they're not expecting Royce to return. Unless, there's someone else leaving we don't know about.

+1

Completely agree with this thought. The young man has made some mistakes but in the grand scheme of things a disorderly conduct and a trespassing charge are minor.

Best of luck to Royce on getting re-focused and getting these transgressions behind him so he can work towards his future goals.

I think people would generally agree that most con men are intelligent and well spoken. Royce has all of the tools that he is going to need to successfully pursue the career path that he has chosen for himself.

It's because he's black isn't it?
