per Rossow:

It was only when offensive coordinator Jay Johnson then abandoned Brooks, and basically the entire running game, when the offense regressed to the painful performance of the opening half.

In the final 21 minutes of the game, the Gophers as a team rushed just eight times totaling seven yards. Brooks got only three carries for 8 yards in the final quarter-and-a-half of a one-possession game against an Iowa run defense allowing almost 183 yards on average.

Brooks said he believes in the offense and the coaches, but anyone who watched the game has to question the entire game plan, as well as the play calling. This team isn’t consistent enough to win through the air — Leidner’s first completion wasn’t until the 4:15 mark of the second quarter.

Its best chance of success is with a reliable running game and opportunistic defense, but only one of those showed up against the Hawkeyes.
