per Rossow:

The prospects for a big game from entire offense are there against Iowa. The Gophers have averaged more than 430 yards and 43 points the past two seasons against the Hawkeyes, punting just eight times in the two games.

Leidner said the success of the offense gives them confidence going into Saturday. He also said preparation will be a key against an Iowa team that “usually plays the way they do”, but added he wouldn’t be surprised if the Hawkeyes alter some schemes due to the offense’s success the past two seasons.

Iowa’s front-seven is mostly unchanged from the second-half of last season, but the Hawkeyes run defense is struggling to match last season’s performance. Opponents are averaging 4.2 yards per carry in 2016, compared to the 3.6 rate, which was tied for No. 24 in the NCAA and fourth in the Big Ten last fall.

The Hawkeyes also failed to stop the run in either of their losses this year, which is another reason Minnesota needs a steady dose of Smith and Brooks in the game plan. They allowed 198 yards last week to Northwestern, and also surrendered 239 yards against North Dakota State in Week 3.

Both the Wildcats and Bison produced a yards per carry average of more than 4.7 — just below the Gophers’ season average of 5.0 – meaning the winning formula on Saturday is clear:

Pound the pigskin. Control the line of scrimmage. Take Floyd home.

Leidner has also been top notch the past two years against the Hawkeyes......hopefully that happens again one more time!

Big game. I'm excited. Am excited to see how the Gophers respond after last weekends tough outcome...
