A single hand.

That’s all you need to count the Gophers teams with eight or more regular-season victories the last 50 years. It’s happened exactly five times — twice since 2013 — but the 2016 squad could make it six with a senior day win against Northwestern on Saturday.

It would be the first time since 1903-05 that the program won eight games three times in a four-year span. This year’s senior class could also make history with a win over the Wildcats, becoming the first class since 1965-68 to finish with an above .500 record in conference play for three of four years.

Even with some disappointing losses, this senior class is one of the Minnesota’s most successful since the glory days of the 1960s. It’s time to start appreciating the 13 seniors, and where they’re leaving the program compared to where it was when they arrived in Dinkytown.

“When they got here, everything wasn’t all rosy and going the right direction,” said Gophers coach Tracy Claeys on Tuesday. “And the culture had to change, and they were a big part of that.”

Go Gophers!!

I'm not sure if anyone has said thanks but------------ THANKS! for posting these articles. I enjoy reading them.

They always deserve appreciation. These kids bust their ass all year long, spend a lot of time, risk their health doing that job.

Wish I could be there for their last home game, but can't make it.

The Sr's have been solid on and off the field. Beat the Cat's!

Last year we had a number of players with eligibility leave. Here are the RS Jr's that could be eligible to graduated and transfer or retire from football. Some of these guys are walk-ons or have struggled with injuries. Poock is one that I wonder if he will be able to get healthy and return.

81 Anyanwu, Duke
4 Ayinde, Adekunle
9 Carter, Eric
19 Conway, Michael
59 Dixon, Ray
70 Fahning, Chad
45 Hart, Nick
33 Harte, Andrew
93 Jackson, Merrick
42 Juenemann, Justin
60 Leidner, Matt
8 McGhee, Duke
12 Poock, Cody
15 Rhoda, Conor
18 Santoso, Ryan
80 Wozniak, Nate

I'd be very surprised if Poock hung up the cleats. He just doesn't seem like the type that would.

This year's 5th year seniors who played their entire careers here (Leidner, Pirsig, Travis, S. Ekpe, Lynn, Rallis, Timms) will finish with a record of (at worst, assuming they don't win another game this year) 35-30 during their time in uniform. The previous 5-year cohort (2007-2011) finished with a record of 20-42.

I think only 2002-2006 beats that and we fired that coach. (38-25)

Has Dixon played this year?

Hats of to the seniors. I will be making the road trip to wish them well. I will certainly miss Travis. He is one heck of a safety and a lot of fun to watch week in and week out.

I don't count three years above .500 in the conference. Unless he means cumulatively and you get to skip a season, which he can't mean because they'd meet that criteria before the NW game.

2012: 2-6
2013: 4-4
2014: 5-3
2015: 2-6
2016: 5-3 (assuming a win over NW)

Hats off to all of the seniors!!! Deep thanks! May they savor every last second! My hope is that they will play relaxed and truly like they want it. Not tight and like they "have to"win this game. My guess is that a relaxed and hungry team will be carrying the seniors off the field as winners.

I'm going to like watching them hoist Pirsig!
