I like Mark Rosen as a sports guy. On the sports at 5:00 he said he talked to Trestman. Trestman has not been in contact (or so he says) by the U. Rosen can't believe the U would pass up trestman because of all his experience. What rosen failed to talk about how many jobs Trestman has had and basically no recent recruiting and college experience. I get the sense that Rosen is getting frustrated as well as all the media BECAUSE THEY KNOW NOTHING about the search. I give maturi credit because the media is in the dark. I look forward to finding out who our new coach will be and think it is great the media does not have a clue.

Trestman's one qualification is he is from Minnesota. He's not on any nfl or college team's short list for coaches.

yeah, sure, 30 years of coaching experience on every level isn't a qualification at all. As a matter of fact I assume it's an automatic dis-qualifier for Maturi who appears to have "sub-.500 record" as the most important asset for a potential candidate...

I would take Horton ahead of Trestman if it comes to that. JMO

I'm sure that's the only thing on his resume. "I'm from Minnesota." That's why he's had steady work for thirty years.

There's so many aspects to college coaching that just aren't part of pro coaching.

Rosen is a pal of Trestman's. They went to school together at St Louis Park so its pretty understandable that he would be in Trestman's corner.

Again, I'm old (I actually think I'm the same age as Rosen or at least thereabouts) and one of the things that I have come to not enjoy about modern sports coverage is that the announcers plug their own guys ad nauseum. It used to only be Sid. Now it's almost the whole town.

Why would you rather have Horton who has had a chance as a head coach and failed over Trestman who has had success as a head coach? You are not the first one to say that, but in my mind it makes no sense. Do you really think Horton has more chance at success than Trestman? The only place I get any negative vibe about Trestman is on this board. It seems there are more than a couple people who are well respected in the game that feel Trestman would do a good job. And I don't know if Trestman would even be in my top 15 for coaching options.

Rosen & Company

It seems like the local media has been pushing Marc Trestman from the get-go. Charlie Walters did with Tony Dungy preceding the famous interview with Tony Dungy an Patrick.
Sansevere, Sid Hartman, and Rosen all are trying to dictate who gets the job.

More importantly, they did the same thing after Mason was fired.

Sid and Rosen ( possibly Walters too) were pushing him after Wacker was fired.

They are upset because they are not being listened to.

1. Hopefully he'll get the Indiana job, the only other college job where his name has even been mentioned besides this one.

2. Miami, a place where he has actually coached doesn't appear to have any interest in bringing him back.

3. The last Coach that the media around here were united behind was Gutey. I remember a bunch of them on a now expired local show (Steve and Sharon maybe?) where Rosen lead them in a near unanimous cheerleading session for Gutey.

4. The last guy the M Club got this excited about was Joe Salem.

All that said if he gets the job I'll support him.

Well, he has actually been out of coaching for 7-8 of his past 30 years, that's not extremely steady.

Now, I don't think that him being from MN is the only thing on his resume, but it is the only thing on his resume that intrigues some people.

There are a lot of guys who have been awful coaching in college and decent in the NFL who would never be thought of as legitimate candidates for this job. What's the difference? He's "one of us".

I love how we have all these posters who only appear here to push him as well. I'm not one who feels your knowledge is reflected in the # of posts you have, but I see all of these new names only appearing on Trestman posts imploring us to explain why he's not awesome. Hmm...

Or because instead of even interviewing or having any interest in Trestman they hired Brewster. Not sure why they'd be upset about that though, search committee clearly pointed him out as a good option!

Too bad all of it was pretty piss poor until he ended up in the bizarro world of CFL football.

I think after the most recent experience that we are not going to hire a pro coach for a while. The emphasis is on people with recent college experience and that's appropriate IMHO.

Rosen was on KFAN this morning and openly admitted that he's "pushing for Trestman". Some serious journalistic objectivity there.

Too bad no one who matters cares what he thinks.

To be fair I think he actually said that he's pushing for Trestman because he knows and likes the guy and that nobody really would care what he thinks.

At least he's upfront about it and not pretending that Trestman is the best available coach in North America.

Would Trestman even be considered if he was from St.Louis instead of St. Louis Park?

Reason Trestman has not been contacted is very easy. Maturi stated right off the bat, we want someone who has D1 head coaching experience, preferably someone who is currently coaching D1 right now. Trestman has a grand total of zero years of D1 head coaching experience. If your name is not "Tony Dungy", I'm pretty sure you are not a candidate for this job if you have zero years of D1 head coaching experience. Most people applauded having that as one of your qualifications, yet, Trestman's name keeps popping up like crazy.

And that's not to say I think he'd be a disaster, I don't think he would be as bad as some on this board think. But if I'm gonna go outside of the college head coaching realm, I'm gonna look for someone better than Trestman, I'm sorry.

Yes, until we started seeing some of those coaches, and realized the only ones reportedly interested haven't even managed a winning record, are reportedly interested in other jobs long term, or are just underwhelming.

lolz at Trestman.

On the positive side, we finally found someone who would definitely be a worse AD than Maturi.

I think Trestman has a big upside. Don't get me wrong I'd take Leach in a heartbeat but Trestman is not that bad of an option. I'd take him anyday over Horton. Horton has failed when he was a head coach at the D1 level.

Trestman is leagues above Brewster and Horton. He's know as an offensive guru and has coached in the NFL and College as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for many years. When Tebow was looking for help at the pro level, he turned to Trestman. The three years Trestman's been in Canada his team made it to the Grey Cup all three years and they have won it twice. Kind of reminds me of another coach who's had success in Canada.

I'm not saying Trestman is the best choice but it would not be the end of the world if he was hired here. He just might do a good job and having MN ties I could see him here for awhile.

Trestman's tenure at NC State is a pretty fair indictment on his abilities at the college level. There is a reason no NFL or D-1 teams are knocking down his door.

The Grey Cup thing is what it is; but honestly, it's an eight team league and it's almost a different sport. I take it with a pinch of salt.

Guys like Golden and Hoke could coach rings around a stiff like Trestman. Have you ever watched a CFL game? Are you aware there are only 8 teams? Not much of an accomplishment to win in that league.

There are definetly better canidates than Trestman but I still think he might turn out to be a good hire. I would take Leach right now over anyone.

Maturi knows the former players want him, so he will not even consider. Trestman does nothing for me.

Horton beat Iowa. That's more than Trestman can say.
