In Charley Walthers column, today, he had the following:

"Ex-Gophers: Ron Johnson, who was a standout wide receiver, has a chance to become a football assistant at Kentucky and might have a chance to join the staff at his alma mater;"

Is there a spot available on the current staff? Is there still speculation that wide receivers coach George McDonald may leave to become the head coach at Eastern Michigan? Has Johnson any coaching experience?

Any thoughts?

Go Gophers!!

There are ways to bring new coaches in with low negative impact if you think there's big potential. If Ron has great technical skills, and I don't know that he does, his weaknesses as a coach can be minimized as he learns those skills on the job.

The question will be if Brew thinks he has the 24/7 mentality and high energy to be a great recruiter. Those need to be somewhat inate in Brews world.

Personally I hope Ron Johnson has greaat technical skills and a quick study plus the 24/7 mentality and the high energy to be a great recruiter. Those are non-negoitable traits of Gopher Football now-a-days. Exciting days indeed.
