I think firing Tubby would be a bad idea, and I think this season could still end up being a success. I think this is a confidence team who is out of confidence. They'll lose to Indiana. But then they'll beat PSU, build some confidence, beat Nebraska, and then hopefully beat Purdue. Then, they're on a bit of a roll going in the BTT, beat an easy team in the first round, lose in the next. Then, they're in the tourney, and they're back against non-Big Ten competition. In the NIT last year, and in every non-conference season, we've seen how well we can do against non-Big Ten teams who don't do the slow it down style that kills us. I still think it's possible that we could end up having a successful season.
On the Tubby conversation, why do people think that we're the sort of place that can pull a great coach to replace him? I was on board with firing Mase. I still think it was a good idea. But we've seen how disastrous it can be. Personally, I'd be in favor of Teague telling Tubby after the year to fire a deadweight assistant or two and bring in a couple of x's and o's guys, like Monson with Molinari. But outright firing a coach who will in all likelihood have us in the dance this year? I just think it's probably a bad idea.
