Anybody who says he hasn't improved the last month or so hasn't been watching. Time to give him some props after all the bashing he has taken this year.

Listening to cco postgame. Rodney 14 pts, 5 reb, 0 to, 2 assists and 3 steals.

I think I got that right.

Edit: Also 2 bks and 34 miniutes.

He played better today, but we need a player to get some defensive stops. Why can't they trap and create turnovers. Rodney needs to stop concentrating on dunking and drive the ball to the goal more often. He should be getting more deflections with his wingspan.

im so looking foward to an athletic backcourt with skill next year. rodney will be greatly improved i hope, and the hollins' along with coleman chip, and possibly welch should be a nice compliment to the frontcourt

honestly what does he need to do for you people? shoot 5/5 on threes, 10 steals, and no dunks? he is who he is. he had a good game, and he's getting better

i was very happy with rodney's game today, he played very good defense, scored some efficient baskets, and hit free thows. i wish he would drive more, but he played solid today

Some people will just never be satisfied. Rodney played great today and is clearly making strides. Makes me even more excited for what he can bring in the future. Hopefully games like today will become commonplace for him next season.

I've bashed him plenty, but today was a solid performance. If we could get Hollins and Rodney to play well at the same time things would be going better. They are like a seesaw. Rodney showed some control today which will bode well for next season.

He's improving, starting to get a feel for the position. He drove to the basket in the middle a couple of times and made baskets or got fouled. He hadn't ever done that prior to the last couple of weeks.

He could be very good by the time he graduates.

Your first 2 sentences - I do not think that Williams is the guy deciding whether to press or play half court trap. SO I do not understand how you could pin that on him.

Your 3rd sentence - You essentially tell him to stop trying to dunk and instead try to get to the rim......ummmmmmm, What?

Your last sentence - He may or may not lead SFs in the Big Ten in blocked shots. (depending on how you classify certain players)

He is much better than D Johnson was as a sophomore, and he has a much higher upside.

He's improving no doubt. Hit the weights hard and shoot about 500 shots a day- he'll be very good next year.

Last 4-5 games he looks much better, if not a bit more consistent in most aspects of the game.

definitely one of Rodney's better games.

Needs to work on; aggressivness, ball handling and shooting.

I'm still amazed he hit that fadeaway baseline jumper as the shot clock was about to expire.

Certainly needs to improve his handle and shooting.

His strength is what limits him from being more aggressive. Most of the time when he tries to penetrate from the wing, he gets bumped off his angles by stronger defenders. This isn't Rodney lacking aggressiveness. It's Rodney lacking lower body strength.

You don't think he is better than D. Johnson was his sophomore year?
Or you don't think he has a higher upside than D. Johnson?

Which claim do you dispute and why?

Edit: now that I actually go back and look, you are probably disputing that he is better than D. Johnson his sophomore year. Statistically they are actually pretty similar.

As am I. Rodney played well today. Just wish he could develop a pull-up jumper, with his athleticism it would be deadly. Even though there were plenty of games this year where I was hoping he would just go pro, I must say I hope that he sticks around for another year. Another season of working on his jumper, ball-handling, and overall basketball IQ would only help his draft status.

This actually sounds like a description of Ralph.

Those that would benefit/improve with another year of college BB. In order.
1. Rodney
2. Trevor
3. Ralph

Yup I went back and looked at the stats. They are pretty similar players actually.

Also, remember that Damian's sophomore season was actually his third year with the program. So, I think you could make the case that Rodney is farther along in his second year in the program than Damian was in his 2nd year. Of course, Damian came in as an unheralded, lightly-regarded redshirt, while Rodney was a much-hyped Top 75 national high school player.

If i remeber correctly though, even though Rodney was hyped for his dunking out of high school, he was supposed to redshirt to gain strenght and polish until the royce fiasco...

There were suggestions by Myron and others that Rodney could redshirt, but that was never going to happen. I think Tubby even mentioned it a time or two, but Rodney was never going to sit out.

But, your point is correct, he could have used a redshirt year like Damian.

Trapping is nice, but I can't wait to get back to the pressing defense we used to play. Because they have 8 players, it's hard to run a pressing type defense when A) You don't have the depth, and B) You're not putting the ball in the hoop often enough to force the other team to take the ball out of bounds in the first place. It's one of the reasons I'm excited about next season (assuming we get most of the players back) is that we can get back to more of that pressing defense having a full roster and get some more TOs out there.

Congrats on a great game Rodney. His horrible outside shooting at the 3 spot is over blown on an entire team of bad shooters outside of hoff. I am hoping that next year with our depth and athleticism that we can press and run.
