Rodney Williams ABC Dunk of Year Finalist

Myron doesn't even know what network shows the final four. Breathless...

Wait, he's probably had about 10 dunks better than that during his career... why that one (other than that it has to at least be from this year)?

or the cornell one? he cocked it back in mid air, slammed it over the guy, and helped him up after wards, class and insanity

They should show a "highlight" film of his brutal fundamentals. Maybe it would help the Gophers win some games. Put me in the corner of those who don't give a rat's rear about his dunking ability.
Make him a better basketball player so he can help the team!

buzzkill

I thought the rebound dunk just after the halftime buzzer against Northwestern.

That's half of the game.

The other half is 3pt shooting.

Right?;)

That wasn't even close to the best one he's had this year.

I'm at the point where IMO winning this would cause him to regress even more. Would really love to watch a practice. Would think they're on him constantly to improve his fundamentals, but we don't see it. Does he just ignore them; does he not concentrate; does he just become a head case during games; how can you be that good an athlete and be that lousy a shot? Always thought Michael Bauer had a disappointing career but that was because of injuries. Rodney, so far, seems to be in a class all of his own.

What I have never been able to figure out is how such great, big, tall, strong athletes can be so horrible at free throws.

It is a 15 foot undefended, unhurried, pass to the hoop for gawdsakes. These kids have been playing hoops for most of their life.

Actually, the taller you are, the harder it is to shoot FTs. It's a lot easier to get your arch on the shot when you're 5'10" as opposed to 6'7", and likewise 7 footers. Putting a lot of arc creates problems cause the shot gets up high on them, while shooting is with little arc gives way less room for error. It's a catch 22 a little bit. And really, some guys also just don't have that shooters' eye. Being a great, big, tall, strong athlete has little to do with your shooting ability. A scrawny kid can shoot FTs better than a big hulking athlete off just pure form and touch. It's not as easy as some make it look, is all I'm saying, but the fellas could definitely do better than they are on the squad.

WOW

Anyone who wants to know why big time athletes dread playing on a Minnesota team just read the comments on this thread--wow!

It's true that Rodney has alot of work to do on other aspects of his game but damn, show some Gopher pride and admit the kid has a talent for dunking the ball. After all, winning the ESPY for making a trick (lucky) shot didn't "ruin" Blake, did it?

That's because Blake didn't seem to have spent all of his practice time shooting while sitting on his ass.

Yeah, because I'm sure that Tubby tells Rodney to just go work on dunking from the free throw line all day while the rest of the team practices.

Can we put aside our "not an NBA prospect" criticism and get his dunk against Iowa some national recognition? Week five voting ends Sunday per Myron:

At this point I couldn't care less about Rodney's flashy dunks. He's a poor basketball player.

It's what you do on your own that's just as important. I can see one has worked on his weaknesses, and I can't see it with the other one.

Maybe Cooper doesn't let Rodney use their gym and he doesn't have a Y membership or want to play pick-up games at the rec?

Sadly, that's what you need to put in extra work at the D1 basketball program here at the University of Minnesota.
