I'll save the good folks at GopherHole the trouble of posting today's Road to Selection Sunday/Field of 68 projection and post it myself. ...
Road to Selection Sunday: Gopher Swoon Continues, Now Sport 2-13 February/March Record in Last Two Seasons
FREEFALL, U.S.A. -- With a second consecutive late-season swoon, the Minnesota Gophers for all practical purposes have played their way out of NCAA Tournament consideration. After going 1-9 in February/March of 2011, the reeling Gophers are repeating the pattern in 2012 with their 1-4 February mark.
Though opportunities remain (Michigan State, Indiana, @ Wisconsin) to force their name back into the NCAA bubble hopper, the harsh reality is the Gophers would do well to win two games (including the B1G Tournament) the rest of the way. That would leave the Gophers at worst with a 19-14 record, which likely would be enough to garner a spot in the NIT. Certainly any of the 3-letter tournaments (also CBI and CIT) are not what Gopher fans pined for when February arrived, but nevertheless a NIT berth could serve some benefit for a team losing only one senior, Ralph Sampson III.
Now, on to the "Field of 68" projection. The Big East passes the Big Ten for the most projected bids (9 to 7), and it's likely to stay that way through Selection Sunday with the downward spirals of the Gophers and Illinois. As always, RPI's listed are courtesy of Jerry Palm at CollegeRPI.com.
