Rivals ranks Coach Kill hire

I think Rivals has a better grading system and eval then the others I have seen out there. All things being considered, at least according to rivals, MN actually came out on top IMO. Given the supposed quality of the schools, MN actually hired better whereas Miami and Florida were less then hires...

Way to go, Joel. Keep up the good work!

Rivals has Pitt as a 4-star job and Minnesota as a 3-star?

Clearly, they didn't consult GopherHole's member base first; posters here overwhelmingly said Minnesota was a better job than Pitt or Colorado. In fact, Rivals ranked Pitt ahead of Stanford, Colorado, and Maryland.

(This should be taken with a huge grain of salt, as Rivals also ranked San Diego St. as a more attractive destination than Minnesota, which is ridiculous and asinine.)

Good to see Rivals likes the hire, I think we can see what Kill can bring to the table, he's solid, with a track record of great seasons.
Man though, does it frickin bother me when media outlets belittle the Gophers' long term chances of anything "beyond 7 or 8 wins and a bowl game" BS with a fiery pitchfork. Whatever. I will never allow myself to accept 7 or 8 wins and a bowl game as the ceiling for greatness here, that's absolute loser talk and it pisses me off to no end when I hear it uttered after some positive comment about the program, it's backhanded and it's stupid analysis, especially when you consider the recent success of historically inferior programs like wisky, illinois, NW, and iowee.

You ever been to SD, maybe the school itself is not as good as MN, but being near the beach and the quality of life...MN does have a difficult time on that one...just saying...

San Diego

I lived in San Diego for awhile. Coach at San Diego St and live in La Jolla...that'd be pretty dang sweet! But if you are competitive...taking Minnesota to the Rose Bowl is a higher calling...no doubt.
Heck, just trying to win BIG TEN conference games is pretty daunting.

too bad Golden turned us down, so you clearly don't know what you are talking about.

Yea, but I don't think sunshine overcomes the "coaching a team that will compete in the post-TCU and BYU MWC" thing.

When I was saying this I taking into account that I had read somewhere that the U of M was willing to pay 2+ million per year for a head coach. If Minnesota was paying 2.5 per year, it is a more attractive job than Pitt IMO.

Well they also listed Northern Illinois, Miami of Ohio, and Tulsa as equal to Minnesota, Maryland, Colorado, and Stanford in terms of job attractiveness. Give me a break. You could argue the plusses and minuses of the jobs at these major schools but there is no doubt all of them are much much more attractive than NIU or Tulsa. I guess according to Rivals Kill made a lateral move.

This story is also ridiculous. They rate Golden and Muschamp as great hires, what are the chances both of them succeed to their schools standards?
I would say almost 0%.

Pitt is a better destination. They play in an easier conference and played in a BCS Bowl in the past decade. They have a much easier path to another BCS game.

You have to remember, these are football only rankings. Clearly we're much better all-around athletics than many of these teams, but our football team is a joke right now...

the way i read the eval was that we tied the other schools that got a 3.5. jerry kill at miami would have been ranked as a lower score because it's a 5 star job, etc.

Actually, if you read the header, it says that the jobs are grouped by tier and then ranked within that tier.

Shalala has to 'allow' Golden the chance to find his Brent Moss.

"But there's no reason they can't annually contend for a bowl bid."

I hate this sh*t...

Or in IU's "And as at Minnesota, success won't be measured in conference titles; it will be measured in seven- and eight-win seasons and bowl bids."

Fu*k that!!

Right on. We can expect more than that.:clap:

There are a lot of people out there who think that nothing ever changes, that we should expect to see the same things 5, 10 or 20 years out. Those who think that we can't hope for anything more than 8 win seasons never seem to have any concrete reasons why we can't. They instead fall back on "Well, they haven't won the Big Ten since 1967, therefore they can't win it."

They would have said the same things about Wisconsin 20 years ago.

Really?

If I were a kid in high school, I'd rather play in San Diego than Minnesota.
