But he doesn't teach the DB's to turn their heads. :banghead:

if Claeys ends up leaving, is Sawvel the heir apparent to the DC position?

A lot of fans are worried about losing Claeys, I'm much more worried about losing Sawvel. Claeys is paid awfully well, it would probably have to be a power 5 head coaching gig (and not a terrible program like Kansas) to pull him away. Sawvel on the other hand could be lured away to be a defensive coordinator somewhere.

Agree. He is a great coach and is an excellent evaluator for recruiting DB's.

If Sawvel takes a promotion somewhere else....does that open up the option to look at Tyrone Carter as our DBs coach?
I know he wants to be a coach on this team in some capacity, per his tweets, but....could he?

Sawvel like all our coaches are paid pretty well. Kill did a great thing with the negotiations in contract extension/raise.

The one thing I still haven't heard Claeys say is that he wants to be a head coach. If he stays in his position as Associate Head Coach/D Coord he can make upwards of $1 million per year and not ever have to be the guy. Plus he is invaluable to Kill and the program...I think he stays and is rewarded for his loyalty.

I think Sawvel is promoted to Co-Defensive Coord after this season as Claeys continues to do more of the HC duties. But no matter what, either Claeys or Sawvel will be gone in 2-3 years unless Kill retires.

Carter needs to get some formal coaching experience if he wants to be a major college position coach.

T. Carter would need to start at the bottom and work his way up, GA, Quality Control, and then Position Coach, at best he skips the GA level.

Gopher028 is just name dropping. Take it from there.

Why would Cleays leave? He and the staff may meet some dollar incentives this year and I believe based the many times I have heard him interviewed, he is happy as D coordinator. He does not strike me as a guy who has to be a head coach. his success has been with Kill and he is not going anywhere.

When you look back on the history of this staff, Coach Kill asked for part of his salary increases be withheld from him and given to his support staff. Why would we think the tables would turn now? Dedication is a two way street.

They all are making. "decent livings".
