Interesting piece on ESPN from Rittenberg about each Big Ten team and how many games were lost to injury for each:

Interesting that Northwestern only had 5 total games lost to injury by starters. Without question helped them on their way to one of their best seasons in recent memory. Gophers proved to be very fortunate in this category on defense last year. Hopefully that will continue, but on both sides of the ball!

Thanks for sharing. Northwestern's number is pretty amazing. It'd be nice to only lose 5 starts throughout the entire season. Here is the link to all FBS http://www.philsteele.com/Blogs/2013/JUL13/DBJuly22.html

Gophers OOC (excluding Western Illinois):

UNLV: 17 (11 offense, 6 defense)
NMSU: 7 (1 offense, 6 defense)
SJSU: 13 (1 offense, 12 defense)

Some observations: New Mexico State only lost 1 offensive start and still only went 1-11. They are putrid. San Jose State's offense also benefited from not being bit by the injury bug.

OT: Louisiana Tech only lost 2 starts to injury, both on defense.
