Rise and shine boys!!!

I don't get why this is such a big deal. When I played D3 football ten years ago we had 6am winter and spring workouts. I'm amazed that this is culture shock to these players.

Welcome to adulthood. Kids get to sleep in, anyone who has a job knows the meaning of being on time. I think it is a good lesson. Surprised they are just learning it. It does sound like they got the message of who is in Charge! We should see a team that is ready to play from the start. I look forward to the fall!

Yup - workouts like this are very common. Also very common that players don't like the early workouts. No surprises here.

It is the beginning of March... Not a ton of college football news to report.

Welcome to adulthood? They are in college for pete's sake. In all my time at the U I had one class that was before 10:30 (Freshmen Comp) most college kids sleep in every chance they get.

Yes but these are not your average college kids. They have a job to do and that is football. They are receiving a free ride for it. This coaching staff is just holding them accountable!
In the real world a boss does not care what you have to do to accomplish a task just that the task is done and done right. If it means loss of sleep, you lose sleep.

I remember 6AM practices when I was playing 9-Man football in high school. Sleeping in is great, but there are times when you have to give it up if you want to get something else.

Everything is a culture shock until you do it. Obviously these guys didn't have to get up this early before and aren't happy about it now. I'm an adult with 2 kids and a wife and I hate getting up at 6:45 every day and my wife still says I get up late. No college kid, athlete or otherwise, likes getting up that early. Stil they're doing what they need to do and that's commendable.

I actually don't know that many people who report to work at 6am lol

Its bringing them together. Making them accountable for each other. Building upon the team concept.

A lot of people in my office are in at 6am so they can leave by 3pm. I like the idea of leaving by 3, not so much getting up at 5:30 am.

If work isn't getting you up early, having young children will. And they don't understand sleeping in on weekends either. :)

I know what you mean, I have a 4 year old who climbs in my bed about 6am every day.

And your coach was there before 6 a.m. helping you get adjusted to the 1st game at Prep Bowl in the Dome at the State Championship Game at 8 a.m.? Lubarski knew it would work!!!!!

I like to sleep in occasionally, but there is no doubt that 6 am is the best time of the day! Especially in rural MN! At D2, we had 530-6 am running so I did not really think it was a big deal. I saw Syracuse does theirs at 5 am.

kinda off-topic but De Las Salle basketball team practices everyday at 6AM.

So does the Stephen Argyle Central football team.......

Off topic, but wasn't Argyle dominating 9-man football before they combined with another school....I don't think you should be able to dominate football, combine with another school and not put 2 more players on the field.

Early morning workouts happen every year, yes it was done last year albeit not until just before spring ball. Every year guys would gripe about it, really not that uncommon.

agree, plenty of time to sleep when we take the big dirt nap. Plus if they get tired there is less chance of moped races, fights, shenanigans after dark. Keeping busy is the best way to stay off of the police blotter

0600 or 0555 should be no big deal, my daughter starts no later than 0600 MWF all year, about a third of the time ROTC starts earlier, the earliest has been 0430.

What matters here, is that Coach Kill has the full attention and committment from the players. His system and expectations appear to be on much higher level compared to what they have experienced in the past. That is the story. Not just getting out of bed early in the am.

+1 Well said, Bayfield

That's exactly it - the boys seem to be responding to higher expectations.

Higher expectations along with accountability and a history of Kill's staff producing positive results seems to be making a difference. So far so good with the response.
