On ESPNU's Signing Day Special Dave Telep asks Rick Pitino. What Recruiting advice did you give Richard?

Rick: I found out thru the Celtics, you only win when you have great players, regardless of what system you run, how prepared you are. You have to get the same players as Michigan, Indiana, Ohio St. are getting and not a step below. Hire a staff that can flat out recruit. All 3 assistants can recruit no body has a particular player or territory no one has 'their kid'. We all recruit together.

Also said: Richard you have gained humility far far past me, it took me to age 50 before I realized what true humility was all about. You have it at 30, you have a leg up.

Sounds like he is following that advice and the addition of Ben Johnson is a huge addition.




 

Agreed, I am getting more excited about the future of this program every day.
 


I will repeat myself again. I even e-mailed Nadine Babu. The name of the new Golden Gopher Basketball Forum is "Pitino's Posse"!! Go Gophers!!

"Pitino's Posse" is a great name for our Golden Gopher Basketball Forum. I thought it up myself. Not too bad! Any other comments?

He also told him, find a local resturant whose owner will leave the keys after closing. This is just a joke. Rick is one of my favorite coaches ever. I still remember his UK's 86 team that nobody has been able to replicate. I hope Rich can be at least 50% as good.
