per the transcript from Rick's press conference last night:

On the Big Ten/ACC Challenge: "I was concentrated on one game and that is Minnesota versus Wake Forest. I was watching that whole game yelling at the screen and making notes. I made literally two pages of notes and he (son Richard Pitino) just listens every time and says, `is that it Dad?' He has to go so I have two pages of notes. He won by 15 and I've got two pages of notes."

Go Gophers!!

How!?!? He's watching our game a couple hours before the start of his?

That's love. I love Rick and Rich and their relationship.

I love it. No way he says that if Louisville loses last night though. Haha

note 1: have Hollins shoot 3s every possession, hit 70%, win game?

The father/son relationship is very admirable. I like the fact his dad does nothing to hide how much he wants his son to succeed.

It seems like it might be kind of awkward for Richard. It's one thing for Daddy to provide advice privately, but it's another matter for him to do it out in the open. Richard already had to defend himself after Rick sat behind the Gophers bench last season.

Save your notes for Louisville Rick. Richard has Gopherhole to lean on.

I think the more that he mentions the Gophers program, the better.

We have one of the most accomplished college coaches ever cheering for us. Several levels of awesome.

I wonder how many pages of notes he has for Bobby Knight?

There seems to be no pretentiousness between the two. They show closeness and love, and I think that's great!

Cheering for us, advertising our program, networking for Richard and giving him leads on recruits no doubt. It's a great deal- 2 for 1 Pitino sale!

And probably a standing offer as a "senior" assistant when he's done at Louisville.

I think it is awesome that these two coaches have so much fun together off the court.

Am surprised Rick's notes weren't at least 9-10 pages! This team looks so far from what I expected it to be by this time. Long way to go to even finish top half of the Big Ten. Only 1 great team in the Big Ten (Bucky), but a whole slew of good ones after that. I'd argue Rutgers and perhaps Northwestern are the only well-below-average teams, but even the Wildcats could end up being decent. ... I like what Collins is doing.

That 2-0 road trip (Purdue, Maryland) I was hoping for to start the Big Ten season? At this point I'd settle for 1-1 in a New York minute.

They are tough to watch right now SS. However, take a look back a year ago. They played a very respectable game against Syracuse and then they played lousy against Arkansas and Chaminade and looked a lot like they do right now.

We are definitely struggling to find leadership and to learn to value the ball better- that part is really frustrating. The other part that is a little unexpected is that we have gotten no help at the power forward from the newcomers.

I think these guys (Martin, Konate, Buggs) will develop as the year moves on, and Mason is a really nice surprise and will help a lot. I am satisfied that Morris has a lot of upside and will be fine as time goes on. I still think we will be better than last year in a league that might not be quite as strong at the top. The one unfortunate part is that our non-conference schedule including the loss to St Johns, requires us to be 10-8 minimum to get in this year.

There's a difference between mentioning the Gophers program and publicly telling your head coach son how to do his job.

You don't get It. These two are having fun giving each other crap. I love it.

They are native New Yorkers! They have to say how they feel even if not the Midwest norm. I love it!

Could not agree more. As usual, you are spot on SS.

I've pretty much watched crap basketball from this team all year. A decent BIG team is up by 15 at the half against this sorry Wake Team and wins by 25. Troubling signs all over the place, even in a double digit win. Turnovers, no identity on offense, and too many open outside looks and poor transition play on defense

While we haven't been as sharp as we'd like, we're doing ok considering
A) our starting pg is adjusting to fatherhood while trying to anchor a B1G squad
B) one of our expected contributors is off the team due to domestic assault issues. that affects the team off the court a great deal as well.
C) andre may still be trying to adjust to losing some athleticism due to injuries. i am NOT saying he is unhealthy (we're not going to redshirt him, GW), nor was he ever uber-athletic, but think more like a pitcher losing 5-7mph on his fastball. has to learn a new approach and looked great against Wake.
D) we are sorely lacking size at the 4, and our 5's seem to not be able to keep up to the pace we play at times.
E) we're trying to acclimate a JUCO transfer to B1G while trying to replace the experience of a solid 4-year starter.

i think this team is better than they've shown, and i have faith Richard will get the best out of them. i am concerned with some of the easy buckets we've given up out of the press off of our made baskets, though. i think our big men need to do a better job at the back end of that press.

After A and B I was afraid that C would be something about Rachel demanding better performance. (A) above is silly

We got some time yet for the team to come together. Coach is counting on quite a few new players to step up. Mason has been very good, Morris is just starting to show signs of adjusting, Konate and Martin are overwhelmed and Buggs has been a pleasant surprise. Add to that the spotty play of the Dre twins and that is what you see on the court. Richard will have them ready, look at how well they played out of the gate against UL, with only contributions from Mason and Buggs.

Anytime you beat a major conference team by 15 on the road, you've got nothing to apologize for. They might not have played a perfect game, but thankfully they didn't have to. I see this team improving over the course of the year.
