Rick Pitino hopes to play Minnesota in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge

Father Pitino says he won't schedule a home-and-home series:

“I’m hoping, that the Big Ten/ACC Challenge … I’m hoping that we get matched up them because it terms of a home and home, I’m not playing him,” Pitino told reporters on Saturday at the Hall of Fame’s press conference.

“He’s going to have to be an executive at ESPN to decide,” the Minnesota coach told SNY.tv of his father, Louisville coach Rick Pitino, during a recent recruiting trip to Blair Academy.

“I think he just won the national championship but he doesn’t make those decisions. ESPN does.”

If our Pitino has a good team down the road, good enough to upset his daddy's team, it'll be enough for the bigwigs at the mothership to pin pitino vs pitino. Hopefully the game is at the barn, I'd even be fine with the Xcel or the new taj de zigi when that's built

The Pitino connection is a good excuse for the organizers to match up Minnesota with someone other than Virginia and Florida State.

But they try to make the matchups as big as they can, so the Gophers are going to have to have a strong (probable NCAA tourney) team in the makings before they will set it up.
