per Pat:

The halftime defensive adjustments made by Claeys in Big Ten games often have been as impressive as were Zimmer’s against the Rams on Sunday. I think he’s better with Xs and Os than Kill — and Claeys will get busy on offense and help the Gophers improve there.

Yes, there would have been a search for Kill’s replacement, if the Gophers had a full-time athletic director in place. Considering the predicament, the Minnesota football crowd should look at having a bright, experienced, successful 46-year-old defensive maven to step in as a benefit, not as a liability.

Tracy Claeys seems to have many of Mike Zimmer’s traits, and that’s a good thing.

Go Gophers!!

He said much the same thing while he was talking to Peter Najarian this afternoon.

I'm so glad someone brought to light how stupid the comments were of how Claeys' weight would affect his ability to coach...even some comparing it to Kill's epilepsy.

Dang, I knew the storm was bad last night but I didn't realize that he!! Froze over. Multiple people praising Reusse? Something is very wrong, I wonder if I have to go to work today?

But yeah that was a good piece.

Reusse's column today was good.

I've always liked Reusse. I thought though he'd more critical of the Claeys hire considering he wasn't a big fan of Kill. I like how Patrick took on the morbid obesity issue. I get the feeling that Reusse wishes Lou Holtz never left. I've always wondered if Holtz had stayed would the gophers recent history be much different.

It is unlikely that we would have ended-up doing any better than Claeys if there were an extensive national search.

The timing, and lack of an AD make this hire necessary. The continuity Claeys brings gives the program the best chance to be competetive in the B1G-West with no more painful "rebuilding years".

Nonetheless, Claeys is a legitimate Power-5 HC candidate. Minnesota was fortunate to have one on the staff.

People need to understand that Pat is a closet Gopher fan from way back and he would be very pleased if the program over got over the hump.

Pat did like Kill as well, he just thought he was blowing some smoke about being the simple country guy, and Pat always hates when he things people are playing him.

Pat really likes Claeys though it Is too early to know for sure. If more harsh critic of Ruesse ever listened to him on the radio, when he talks about the Gophers, I think they would appreciate him more. I think Pat is great on the radio, and I do not think he is anything close to the angry, bitter, "dry drunk" some paint him as. Ruesse should have gotten on the radio much earlier than he did, since he is way better than Danny B or anyone else locally. He does actually talk about sports, he has good guests, and he interacts well with those guests.

Nothing to add. Just wanted to show off my new signature.

The same Pat who kept talking about how "hilarious" the end of the Michigan game was? Ya, he's just a tremendous Gopher fan.

I think it should be clear that Pat is a columnist/ commentator first, and a fan (from his youth) second. You really did not expect Ruesse to pass up material like pissing a 28-7 lead down the leg, on the biggest stage in 35 years away, did you?

I guess you'd prefer the Sid Hartman approach.

He!! did freeze over, not because of people praising Reusse, but because he wrote a article about the Gophers without taking a cheap shot.

Reusse is a very good writer and has some good insight about most things, but he typically takes cheap shots at the Gophers in the name of trying to be cute and jabbing the fans.

FIFY. He reads this forum, openly admits it, and loves getting a rise out of you guys. Realize that < 10% of Gopher fans ever come on this site.

See what he is writing next year.

First Reusse thread in GH history not to mention that Pat is fat. We've been taught Epilepsy awareness, and now fat acceptance.
