Thank you Patrick.

Happy Birthday Beloved Coach Warmath! Go Gophers!

A very good story! I'm glad I witnessed some of the winning seasons of coach Warmath. His teams were always fundamentally sound and competitive. It's nice to see that his charges respect and honor the man who played a major influence in their lives. Their interest and respect for him has to be very rewarding. I'm sure their success off the field in their careers must be a source of great pride for coach Warmath as well.

Go Gophers!!

Nice story. Back in the early days of "GopherTalk" (about 1995) Ernie Cook posted under his real name, as did a lot of people back then. I wonder if he still posts. He has clearly led a highly successful post football life and remembers people who influenced him along the way.

"He took the chalk and drew a straight line down the middle of the board," Soltau said. "And then he said, 'On this side of the line is what's legal on a football field, and on that side of the line is what's illegal.'

"Then, he stared at the players and said, 'And I want you to make that line as thin as possible.'"

Hahaha fantastic.

That is a refreshing read from Mr. Reusse. Younger Gopher fans and alum (such as myself) from the last forty years rarely get to hear or see the stories that constitute the "glory years" of Minnesota football. Reusse's opinionated writing concerning Gopher football is usually snarky and crass. It was really nice to read about a legendary Gopher football coach who not only understood X's and O's of good football, but also understood that he was shaping the lives of young men.

I don't know if we'll ever hear any stories like that about Brewster or Mason or Wacker or Gutekunst. I don't recall reading any. I hope and believe Coach Kill is made of different stuff than his immediate predecessors, and I hope our media tells those stories like they are with Warmath. I hope Coach Kill will teach these men about life as well as football. Teach them about character and the importance of being a good man. That will make them better football players and better men! Sorry to go all Mr. Rogers on y'all.

Go Gophers!

Hey, I just got my wings!

I just noticed...I'm not a "junior member" anymore! I feel like Clarence!

Go Gophers!

At the height of his coaching popularity it looks like he was being encouraged to run for the "highest office in the land."
