Reusse 1500 column: Maturi goes small time, and we scream

"We cast a wide net in this search, but the name we kept coming back to was Jerry Kill.''
One of the dumbest comments of all-time from Maturi. This search was Maturi's cut Randy Moss moment...he has officially lost 99% of fans.

He has lost a large part of the vocal minority on this site, but not 99% of the fans. Unfortunately Maturi has the job at the boiling point of all the football issues for the last 40 years.

It really is time to throw maturi under the bus...BUT...

since so many of the fantasy recruiting bunch claim to hate the new coaching hire, it is time for me to fully support the notion that a good, solid COACH can eventually demand some respect for the University of Minnesota Football Program within the Big Ten Conference. It will be hard for him to garner much respect from our "so-called" fan base. However, I am proud to state that I DO believe that Coach Kill will have a program that can run the ball and can improve on the program's history of lack of defense and will do a better job of stopping the run. As usual, building depth will be a huge and essential task.

So, I'm here to say that it is time for decent Gopher Fans, with some common sense and an undersanding of just how big a task moving up in the Big Ten standings and levels of competition from the bottom levels to the mid-range levels really is.

Coach Kill really IS a coach who has a track record and has experience. He has a staff he has worked with. Coach Kill is a coach I feel will honor the players he has returning by evaluating their skills and by putting them in schemes and systems they will have the best chance at having success at.

I believe he knows who he is as a football coach, what he believes in, and a committment to improving this program by teaching, coaching, game planning and looking for playerswho will fit into his system, be coachable enough to learn the system and he is a coach who will instill discipline in his players that will help he program to be more competetive and win more Big Ten games than the previous coach was able to do.

So. I have no qualms about it. I totally support Coach Kill and I think it will be essential for fans who are inclined to be supportive of the new coach to stand tall...band together to counter all the negativity and hope for the very best for ou new coach, his staff and all the players.

prexy b. will be gone soon. So will maturi. Coach Kill will be here a long time. These are ALL very good things! Every Big Ten win is a very precious thing!

+1. Great post. Kill needs the support of all true Gopher Fans. The pressure is on the Upper classmen to buy in and perform right away to help get this thing turned around. I belive Gray will be the man to make sure that happens.

Sorry should have stated that better, I was saying that Maturi has lost the confidence of 99% of the fans in his ability to perform competently as an AD not that he lost 99% of fans support of the team itself.
