The fans have taken a liking to Chip Armelin, a 20-year-old from Louisiana. He can't shoot, but goes hard continually and should be better at defending the perimeter than were the veterans in Madison and East Lansing.
The freshman I like is Austin Hollins, the son of Lionel (The Train) Hollins, the coach of the Memphis Grizzlies. He's 6-4 and has been playing on the wing behind the erratic Rodney Williams.
Hollins played only 10 minutes combined in the first two Big Ten games. He's more of an off guard and, without Joseph, maybe Tubby will take occasional look at a big backcourt combo - Blake Hoffarber and Hollins _ when Nolen is taking a breather.
We're getting to the point of the season where freshmen are supposed to start figuring things out. That's what Smith is going to have to see from Hollins, Armelin and/or Ahanmisi, if Joseph heads down the road.
