Their number of penalties and the fact that the Gophers can lose their lead in the All-Time Series record.
INSIDE THE HUDDLE
• UW entered the day No. 2 nationally in fewest penalties per game (2.8) (!!!) but committed two on its first defensive series. Conor Sheehy and T.J. Watt both were called offside. The Badgers, who had 28 penalties for 276 yards in the first 10 games, were flagged eight times for 67 yards Saturday.
• Natrell Jamerson replaced Lubern Figaro as the nickel cornerback late in the first quarter and gave up a 48-yard pass play to DeAngelo Yancey.
• UW freshman Anthony Lotti, who had been punting well and entered the day with 16 of his 34 punts inside the opponents’ 20, struggled to adjust to the wind during warm-ups. After one bad punt, long-snapper Connor Udelhoven walked over and talked to Lotti for about a minute. Lotti recovered to punt well considering the conditions. He had punts of 29 and 35 yards into the wind and a 41-yarder with the wind.
QUOTABLE
All we were worried about was each game. When we looked at our schedule we knew there wasn’t a game we couldn’t win. We thought we would win every one of them.” - Hornibrook, on the Badgers’ confidence after a 1-2 Big Ten start.
UP NEXT
Minnesota (8-3, 5-3 Big Ten) at Wisconsin (9-2, 6-2), 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The Gophers knocked off visiting Northwestern, 29-12 on Saturday. Minnesota leads the overall series with UW, 59-58-8, but the Badgers have won the last 12 meetings, dating back to a three-point loss in the Metrodome in 2003.
