I was a student manager with the team from 04-07. I was there for Mason's last three years and Brewster's first (1-11). I think this program has taken a few big steps backwards. Brewster may have recruited some more athletes but if you can't coach them, the results aren't going to be any different. I saw that in year one. The teams that Mason had may have had less athletes but they competed much more regularly than Brewster's have. Going from a 4-4 team to a 6-2 team in the Big Ten is a tough thing to do. Maturi must not have realized that, and as a result, him and Pasadena Brew may have their second 0-8 Big Ten season in 4 years. Mason had his shortcomings but his teams consistently buried inferior non-conference opponents and never went winless in the Big Ten. This program right now is on a collision course with Jim Wacker type results.
