They've had similar problems this year.

BLOOMINGTON — There’s no crying in baseball. Nor in football, if you play on the offensive line.

Think you are hurt? The guy next to you has it worse. Pass-outs are available only to those with season-ending surgeries.

It is a mentality instilled in O-linemen long ago, according to Kevin Johns, co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Indiana University.

“You have to play through injury. That’s a part of that position,” Johns said. “You’re never going to feel 100 percent.”

The Hoosiers are down to 40 percent of what they thought would be their starting five on the offensive line: left tackle Jason Spriggs and center Collin Rahrig. Tackle Peyton Eckert (back) and guards Dan Feeney (foot) and David Kaminski (knee) are sidelined for the season...

Here's a couple of other notes they highlighted in Indianapolis.

Minnesota coach Jerry Kill spoke to the media Tuesday for the first time since taking a leave of absence. He has been working with doctors to control his epilepsy. He will coach from the press box at Indiana, as he did in the Gophers’ previous two games. Kill said he has received advice from Indianapolis Colts coach Chuck Pagano, who missed most of the 2012 NFL season while fighting leukemia. ... Indiana has just 14 three-and-outs in 103 possessions (.136), the third-lowest percentage in the country.

Yeah, I know, bad headline. Meant that the Hoosiers have also had those discussions about their team.

Does anyone know how recent are these injuries? How many starts does the current starting five have for Indiana? Any other injuries O or D? Thanks for any insights.

The link provides some of that information MNGolden.

Interesting stuff about their 3-and-out rate. Looked it up for B1G games...

Indiana offense: 7 out of 44 drives ended in a 3-and-out (15.9%)
Minnesota defense: Forced 9 3-and-outs on 44 opponent drives (20.5%)

Minnesota offense: 8 of 45 drives ended in a 3-and-out (17.8%)
Indiana defense: Forced 6 3-and-outs on 42 opponent drives (14.3%)

Also, they have a lot of possessions compared to us (duh, fast pace). We average about 11 possessions per game on offense, they average about 15.

Predicting a low scoring game then Captain?

Heh...likely no, but maybe. I envision it will be like the Northwestern game (they had 13 possessions), but with a worse defense on their side and fewer turnovers by the home team. So, higher scoring than 20-17.

I don't mind 6 and outs or even 9 and outs if Indiana has to kick. I like outs.
