Well, after losing 7 of the last 8 games to the Hawkeyes, at least they have that going for them. Not a bad consolation prize. :)

I think he's talking to you, GopherRock. It IS Badger week, after all. ;)

BTW, I hope you pound Wisconsin. I'll be cheering for your squad from my couch.

Just out of curiosity, does the average Iowa fan (you are now speaking for all Hawk fans) hate the Badgers as much as the Gophers??

There was a post on one of the Iowa boards today about who they would rather see win the MN/WS game. There were a lot of responses. Although overall it was about 50/50 the vast majority of the "Gopher backers" were using sound reason for pulling for MN... It would benefit their team more to have the Gophers win than have WS get an early season road win in the Big 10. For the other side, the majority acknowledged it might make more common sense to hope for a MN victory but the hatred of Gopher fans was just to strong to ever wish for anything but Gopher defeat. All in all it looked pretty clear to me the negative feelings ran much deeper for MN.

Yess, I knew it. Once again, gophers better than badgers. We're hated more, ha ha you. Oh, and did I say, wisconsin sucks?

My opinion on Iowa's "most hated" rival:
1. Iowa State (no doubt about it)
2. Illinois
3. Wisconsin
4. Minnesota

Oddly enough, although Iowa hasn't played them in about a decade, Nebraska is despised by many Hawkeye fans.

That's just my opinion.

I wonder if we could do a 1 for 2 trade with the big twelve. Iowa for Iowa State and Missouri? I suppose we could throw in Wisconsin to make it 2 for 2.

Tying this back to the beginning of this thread, I bet Penn State would like that idea.

EDIT: I just posted a poll on the HawksNest asking about the Minn/Wisc game. I'll let you know the results if you are interested. Sorry for so many Iowa posts during Badger week. Again, GopherRock started it. :)

I'm sorry...

Not that odd, half of western Nebraska is Huskers fans.

What do you mean? Why would western Nebraska not be Husker fans...it's not like there is another D-I program in state to root for.

This is dumb, and contrary to fact. A common reaction to much of what passes for higher brain activity in an Iowan.

In football, the last couple years have probably moved Iowa State into #1 as the "Most Hated." This is a very recent development though, and unlikely to last without more Cyclone upsets.

But traditionally, there's no doubt that your superiors to the north have been the most disliked. This hatred tends to be intensified when, as is so common, you're receiving your welfare check from our state (or, contrarily, when our welfare recipients make bail and move south and successfully run for Senate. The movie "Idiocracy," as you may know, was inspired by a Minnesotan's visit to Iowa.).

Illinois? You must be joking. People in Iowa want to beat Minnesota badly. Wisconsin does not loom in most people's minds the way Minnesota does. The only people who have a Wisconsin frame of reference are from the (lovely) corner of northeast Iowa--and many of those hosers are actually Becky fans.

So your post was dumb and unhelpful. Most of us (except Iowans) are likely dumber for having read it.

I thank God everyday I never lived in Iowa.

Ah, yes, the condescending passive aggressive hostility of the native Minnesotan.
Never lived in Iowa but knows all about it. "If we say we are your biggest rival then we are your biggest rival."

Can we just defer all this for another six weeks or so? I only have enough rage in my heart to hate one team/state/group of people at a time. I'd be happy to share my vitriol-filled invective against Stanzi and the Iowa faithful in a few weeks, but for right now the Badgers are coming and we have a house to defend.

Thanks in advance. :)

PER THE IOWA LEGISLATURE: FOR REAL

Lately the Iowa Legislature has been trying to find a way to solve a basic problem: how to keep young people from leaving the state. Right now, Iowa's "brain drain" is second only to North Dakota's. The Legislature is toying with a simple idea, getting rid of state income tax for everyone under 30. This proposal was front-page news in California, where most of Iowa moved in the 1960's.

Let me translate the economics of this plan. The State Legislature proposes to offer every young tax-paying Iowan a large delivery pizza equating to about $12 - every week of the year.

I thought Northern Iowa was Iowa's greatest rival.
