Recruits in limbo

I am not really concerned with keeping the current class as much as improving on it. This isn't '08 or '09 where we could ramble off a half dozen or more names that we really don't want to lose off our commitment list. If a new coach is hired in November/early December there should be enough time to attract some kids. I think Zach Johnson made a good point on who will be looking around and who won't be-with the exception of Tommy Olson and the McAvoy twins, I would guess everyone else who had BCS offers will at least look around like Matilius said he would. The kids that just had MAC type offers will probably stick with the Gophers unless someone new comes calling or the new Gopher coach suggests they look around.

You mean all our recruits were Catholic and they are all dead?

We will probably lose most of our recruits to other schools. Can anyone blame them? They want to have hope and right now there is no hope in sight for this program. We are in self imposed sanctions mode. Horton has stated that they will bring in no more recruits with this staff. This means we will be lucky to have 5-10 recruits before the new coach starts. He will have at best 4 months to sell himself. We will be getting the Harold Howell type of players. We need to think of this as starting over. Hopefully the new coach is a big name otherwise it will be another 5-10 year rebuild.

I would agree with all of that except for the "no hope in sight" comment. Everyone, fans, media, and recruits saw what was happening this season with the team and Brew. THAT felt hopeless. An un-named new coach gives me more hope than what I have seen so far this season. I have to believe the potential recruits are seeing the same thing I am. A lot of it depends on why these recruits were interested in the first place too. If Brew was the main reason for their interest than we might be in trouble. I don't really see that as the case, but who knows.

I like your positive outlook but I have seen this road traveled many times. We fire the coach and develop a new program with hopes that this is going to be our time. Maybe I am wrong, but our history seems to keeps repeating itself.

I would hope these recruits would wait until the new coach is named before changing their mind. The University of Minnesota is not going anywhere and the facilities aren't going to change so if a recruit is truly interested in the "U" why jump ship. Signing day is not until early 2011 so there is time to evaluate our new coach. I will be really dissapointed (sp) if any recruit especially a Minnesota kid would jump to slimmy brent enema's team.

IF there is a downside to making a firing decision early, this is it. The longer kids stay committed to a school, the less the likelihood there will be spots open at other programs if they change their minds. Right now, there are a lot of spots open at the schools who recruited some of these kids. Of course, so schools may have "cooled" on these guys. LOL.

I will be curious to see who, if anyone, transfers as well.

Tommy Olson has already said he's still a gopher.

Of this class I always felt it was Tommy and then everyone else. I'm relieved about his commitment, but I'm hoping the other kids stay on as well. Of our other recruits, I'm mostly hoping the McAvoy twins stick around (think they will), Matt LaCosse (per GI said he's not sure what he's going to do), and Max Shortell (GINGER QB!).

Hopefully, whomever comes in as the next coach, can fill out this class and maybe even bring in some recruits. Brewster got a big incoming coach bump in recruiting...

I think most of the recruits will wait and see who gets hired.
