Nice List!

But we are done for next year unless somebody else leaves besdies Hoff and Nolen.

In '12 we lose Ralph. Colt, Trevor and Devoe!

I would look to add Joey King and Kyle Washington before any other juniors.

Not sure about the others on that list, but as far as next year i love the class coming in! I think Coleman is a perfect player with tremendous athletic ability that Tubby can mold into a star. Very glad he committed to us early.

Agree. This is going to be a very good class when all is said and done imo. As we've already seen, Hollins can really play and Coleman figures to be very solid as well. Couldn't have done much better with a two-man class.

MRJ- I agree completely. We will still be a very deep team next year, and minutes will be open for some underclassmen to grab. I think that if I could only pick one type of player to add after this year Coleman would be almost exactly the type of player I would target. Hollins is another player that we know has alot of upside, yet can produce immediately. So like you said for a 2 man class not really sure what could have been improved.

Otto really ends up being part of the 2011 class, he would not have redshirted had he been eligible. He will have the same four years as Coleman and Hollins but comes in with a year of experience with the team.

I have a little different take than others. I would have liked to see a big body type banger in addition to Hollins and Coleman. We will lose Trevor, Ralph and Iversen next year. Yes we have big Mo, and we will have Eliason, but I would like to see a 6'7" power forward type come in next year, have a year to learn from those guys, then contribute after that.

It is possible that Halvorsen can serve this role to some degree... but I would like to see someone in addition.

Just my 2 cents.

Great class, only one request. Point guard, please. Mav has outperformed expectations, but he is not a front line type point guard. Hollins may be the man, but his history is not at the point, and it is a tough spot to learn. Chip might be the guy, but they play him in the off guard slot. I am not sure if he has played any point at all. Devoe is a shooting guard who needs to play point at times, but the team is stronger when he can concentrate on scoring.

Agree about Oto. We'll be able to utilize his inside outside game along with scorers like Hollins. Quite a bit of match up problems once they develop their game. I love Coleman just because I have seen him play quite a bit live. Should be interesting to see which one of the 3 develops into the best overall contributer.

Agreed leftyslefty we should recruit
Washington
King
Chambers

as they are more relastic candiates of actually coming here. Paige might be out of our reach.

Jacoby Brissett?

Can someone fill me in on him, is he a huge academic risk? He is a 3* basketball player and one of the top dual threat QB's in the country but doesn't show an offer from anyone for either sport. I would assume that he is JC bound.

Tweeners

I know they are both quite talented, but are both Hollins and Coleman "combo-guards"? 6'2" and 6'3" seem on the short side for being Division I wing players. We've had a lot of short wing players at MN, and I'm very much skeptical of how much they offer a team. Bobby Jackson is obviously the golden standard at the U for a shorter shooting guard.

Typically, they have a more difficult time defending perimeter shooters, and getting to the rim on offense. I'm not sure how someone 6'2" and with Division I talent isn't molded into a PG, except that maybe they just can't handle the ball as well as a "True PG".

In my opinion, the real difference between elite teams and good teams is having wing players that are 6'5"-6'8" and can handle the ball, get to the rack, shoot, and be disruptive on defense. Essentially, they are Rodney Williams-type athletes but also complete basketball players. Problem is, there are only so many of those guys around, and the best of that group are one-and-dones.

Can someone comment on the specific skill sets of our two commits?

Based on my limited viewing of both players, I think you have a point Andy. I can't remember 2 recruits that we've had in the same year that have such similar skill sets.

Both are athletic, 6'3'' 2 guards that are slashers, get to the hoop, but don't have great range at the moment. Hopefully one (or both) develop the long ball, because we're going to be sorely lacking for shooters next year.

I thought I had read that one of Hollins' strengths was his ability to hit the three, although I could be mistaken. Anyway, I'm not as concerned as others about the outside game next year becuase I think Austin Hollins will turn into a very good outside shooter. I have a feeling Andre will as well. Plus, I also happen to think Devoe will be a pretty good shooter if he ever learns shot selection and that Coleman might be able to hit from outside as well if encouraged to develop that part of his game.

Range is one of Hollins' biggest strengths. He's a very good three point shooter, and Tubby is planning to play him as a point guard, but I would guess he'll play at least some shooting guard as well. Coleman is not a combo guard. He's more of a SG/SF.

Andre Hollins has played SG most of his HS career, but is playing at least a good chunk of his minutes at PG this year.

He will be a PG at Minnesota... I'm a little leery of that as I'd like to have a proven PG, but it's not like Tubby uses his PGs as Steve Nash types anyway. The biggest responsibilities for a PG in the current offense are to handle the ball against pressure, call/initiate plays, and if the shot clock is winding down, create a shot.

Hollins is an extremely bright kid, so I'm confident his PG skills will develop. And I've seen enough of his highlights to know that he can handle the ball and create off the dribble.

Coleman is a SG. He's a little small for a SF, and doesn't have any experience playing PG, and doesn't seem to plan on doing so. I'm less concerned with his skillset overlapping with Hollins than I am of it overlapping with Chip's. They seem like almost identical players to me.

But, Coleman's genes would suggest that he still has some potential to grow.. if he grew even to 6'5", he could be great splitting time at SG/SF along with Austin Hollins and Rodney. His skill-set would be great at SF

6'2" and 6'3" seem on the short side for being Division I wing players.

This is not the NBA. In today's game 3 guards is pretty SOP. Smaller guys can compete in the paint if they're quick and aggressive enough, a lot better than bigger guys can play the rest of the floor.

It is widely believed that he is down to UW and FSU with UNC holding out hope. All of the smart money is saying FSU and that is what I would bet which would suck as we (UW) don't have a QB in this class. This may all change as supposedly Saban has thrown his hat in the ring and is pushing hard. The only thing that points to a positive for UW is that they had been recruiting a back up plan and they stopped a month ago so either the coaches just kinda gave up or feel pretty good about landing him.

Paige was offered by UNC last weekend. That, along with his Kansas offer, probably makes it pretty tough for the Gophers to land him. I have read that he thinks pretty highly of Illinois as well.

I think I have posted this before, but I also think Gary Harris and JP Tokoto are longshots for Minnesota. Harris is being recruited very hard by a number of schools relatively close to Indy (e.g. Michigan St., Louisville, Indiana). I believe Tokoto will end up at one of the two local schools or UNC.

I agree.

I think the only players on this list that they have good shot at getting are probably the two PF and Woodbury.

Tubby offered 2012 small forward DeJuan Marrero last night, according to his Twitter.

We have to outrecruit people with somebody who can play.
Still seems like what we really need going forward is a replacement for Trevor, unless we are getting a Center that can do both. A really physical, great athlete inside really changes the chemistry of a team.
I think Andre' Hollins is the best looking recruit in a long time, combined with being really bright, I am really excited about that kid. With Coleman and Austin Hollins on the same team, it really seems like a bright group that could be coached up into an excellent team.
