Minnesota has an interest in this Killeen, Texas high school kid who has played in the Twin Cities this summer.. plays for the strong Houston Hoops AAU program. About 6'8"; PF-type player that is a need. May be best suited for a mid-major, but a name that may come up more publicly with the Gophers at some point.

There are probably a number of Houston Hoops and Thomas videos out on YouTube.

3 *** on Scout. 0 * on Rivals. NR by Hoopmasters. 83 by ESPN Scouts Inc (Ahanmisi got 84).

ESPN has a habit of drastically changing grades after they commit to a team. Maverick's grade was in the 70s before he committed to Minnesota, as was Oto. Flavien Davis was a 92 and then immediately dropped to an 87 after he committed to Loyola Chicago. Chip Armelin is a 74 right now, but I'm willing to bet he jumps up to low-mid 80s pretty soon.

Clipped From Hoopmasters

TaShawn Thomas, 6-8 215-pound power forward from Killeen High School, has narrowed his list of schools to eight.

TaShawn, who played for the Houston Hoops this summer, burst on the national scene and dominated throughout the Nike EYBL and AAU National Championships in Orlando. In the first two rounds of the Nike EYBL earlier this year, TaShawn averaged 9.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots per game.

He has the tools to be a defensive stiopper at the next level, he has big bounce, quick feet on the blocks, and great timing on shot block. His offense is just starting to come and he could make even more strides in college.

TaShawn's list of schools: California, Houston, Minnesota, Texas Tech, Memphis, Colorado, Colorado State, and Sam Houston State.

Hoopmasters (Clipped)

According to various sources the Houston Cougars picked up a commitment on the first night of home visits Thursday when 6-8 225-pound TaShawn Thomas from Killeen TX decided to become a Cougar.

Thomas was impressed with the coaching staff and the type of players that they brought in this year and decided that Houston was the right place for him. This physical rebounder can finish around the hoop, runs the floor well and is a solid defender on the blocks. He should add immediate depth for the Cougars next fall.

He chose Houston over interest from Texas Tech, Colorado, Alabama, and Temple.
