Interesting list. This year is an anomaly where the state did indeed produce 4 recruits and maybe more that are Big Ten quality recruits. Most years the number is lower. You can't force kids to stay. So they have to put themselves in position to compete for the top kids but also recruit nationally- as was done this year. As Jim Dutcher - who was a great recruiter would say-make it a goal get the top player in the state each year and fill out the roster from other areas. Maybe basketball is better here now than it was but it is still far below most other areas.

This state has great basketball per capita.

A demographer could analyze nationwide data and compare the top programs across the nation and draw certain conclusions but setting that aside:

1. Minnesota has produced some NBA players and RP and staff MUST use these alumni (Bobby Jackson, Flip, Trent Tucker et al. as examples) to at the very least speak to parents and coaches about the virtues of playing at MN.
2. The Gophers staff, including Ben Johnson, DO appear to be doing a vastly improved job of creating trustful relationships with local coaches, et al. This MUST continue to build.
3. The Gophers should do a better job of using the TWolves as a local asset to show that this is a major league city.
4. The University in general has some responsibility for this issue. It IS a fine institution with world class programs in many disciplines. This is terribly UNDERSOLD and must be made a more prominent aspect of recruitment, whether classroom or subsequent industry introductions.
5. While Tubby's style of play was the antithesis of NBA prep-school, RP's active and aggressive style of play IS/WILL BE a recruitment tool as success is established over time.
6. CAN WE JUST BREAK GROUND ON THE PRACTICE FACILITY BY THE SPRING 2014 PLEASE? PRETTY PLEASE?? DON'T MAKE ME BEG. Tradition is one thing - antiquated is another.
