Are the days of MN kids going to Iowa and Wisconsin finally numbered? I think they are.

Seems that we now battling Brad Salem and Michigan State more. I think Kill has us at a level to keep the boarders closed to our division foes. Nelson and Pirsig helped shut the door.

Have you followed recruiting much in the past 5 years? They were already numbered.

Iowa has what, one MN player on their roster who had a scholarship offer to the U. (Rucker) Before that the last one was Broderick Binns probably 10 years ago.

Yes I do follow. I think what is happening has been underrated to this point. It's huge for the program.

I'm not sure its huge for the program in the sense that it's bringing more players to Minnesota. We've replaced losing in-state recruits to UW/IA with the likes of Alabama, Arkansas, Oregon, etc. So I guess it's huge that we'll never face the in-state kids as we would have with Iowa and Wisconsin, but we are still losing some coveted kids.

Obviously the additions of Jeff Jones, Garcia and others is the important trend.

And it is nice that Gary Andersen doesn't "treat Minnesota like in-state recruiting" like his predecessor claimed to do.

Go Gophers!!

The think stadium ended it. That was a big reason recruits would leave the state without really leaving the Upper-Midwest.

Also, D1 college football recruiting has gotten increasingly national over the last decade. IA, WI, and MN are all just as likely to fill their needs with recruits from other regions of the US.

This trend will probably accelerate if stipends become real. Not all D1 programs will be able to afford to have them.

I guess I'm not really following your thought process.

The top kids used to go to Notre Dame and helmet schools, the next level went WI & Iowa. Those next level kids are now staying home.

I guess it's a nice measure of progress. I thought Ray Hitchcock had a nice comment on the post game show yesterday. 'Those that don't see progress in this program, don't know the ball has laces on it.'

So he's saying there is a collection of posters on GH that don't know the ball has laces?!! That explains a lot! lol

To think we are already contenders for the Big Ten title...should be interesting to see what they could do with upgraded facilities.

Hopefully the conference picks itself up off the ground, and we can continue to be a contender in it with some upgraded facilities.
