Duane Bennett, Chris Bunders, Cameron Gatling, Jacob Glickstein, Chase Haviland, Kyle Henderson, Anthony Jacobs, Johnny Johnson, Bryan Klitzke, Brandon Kirksey, Eric Lair, Christyn Lewis, Adam Lueck, Collin McGarry, Da’Jon McKnight, Ryan Orton, Kim Royston, Shady Salamon, David Schwerman, Troy Stoudermire, Patrick Sveum, Gary Tinsley, Jordan Wettstein and Ryan Wynn.
24 Seniors who are suiting up in the Maroon and Gold for the last time on Saturday (okay, maybe not Troy).
Some of the names you know, some you don't. Some of them starters, some of them regular contributors, some of them never played a down.
Every one of them made the commitment to their school and to their teammates to practice every day, prepare all year round, and keep up with their obligations in the classroom in order to stay eligible.
There aren't too many that know what kind of sacrifice and commitment it takes to participate in athletics, all the way through their senior year, at the collegiate level. That in itself is a monumental achievement and I hope we all reconize that this Saturday. The amount of time put in at practices, position meetings, film, weight lifting, conditioning, all while being expected to do what it takes to stay academically eligible. For most, it's simply way too much to handle.
It's easy to say we'll miss guys like Tinsley, Royston, Bunders, Wynn, Kirksey, et al. But take a moment to consider what kind of dedication and love for the game, sacrifice, and commitment to your TEAMMATES it takes to go to "work" every day knowing that you're probably never going to get in the stat book. That takes a special kind of person.
Thank you to ALL of the seniors.
