per this update from InsideCarolina.com:

Despite recently verbally committing to Minnesota, Jabari Price will officially visit North Carolina this weekend, he informed Inside Carolina Thursday evening.

Price, a 5-foot-11, 171-pound cornerback from Pompano Beach (Fla.) Ely, pledged to Minnesota last Saturday. Days before making that commitment, he told Inside Carolina that he was down to Minnesota, UNC, and Purdue.
“With Minnesota and Purdue, those two schools have a lot of opportunity for me to come in and see early playing time as a freshman,” Price said. “UNC is closer proximity to home, as well as a good program with Coach [Butch] Davis.”

After this weekend’s Chapel Hill visit, Price will have officially visited all three finalists.

With his mother in tow, Price will arrive in Chapel Hill on Friday afternoon.

The visit fit into Price’s schedule because Ely played Coconut Creek (Fla.) Monarch Thursday night. Ely won, 47-0.

Go Gophers!!

You think Butch Davis will be letting Price know what the temp is up here today?

The UNC stadium will be half empty and quiet. Depends on Momma, I guess.

verbals are becoming more and more meaningless

perhaps the coaching staff should pull what is called the "dick head iowa move"....

and tell him that his offer is null and void if he visits any more schools after minny. just a thought.

Yeah, which is to be expected when you're talking about kids who are getting romanced by so many major programs. Comes with the territory, but remember it can work in our favor as well if we start snaring other people's verbals.

said he is still a "soft verbal" to the U after his visit to UNC, but will be reopening his recruitment says its primarily between Minn, UNC, and Rutgers. I say its 50/50 he he sticks with his commit. I sure hope he does!

Don't verbal to anyone until you've made your visits and are willing to sign. Tired of this charade. Wasn't this the guy who was "blown away" by his visit?

not sure if he was blown away. this is the kid that comes from the same h.s. as M. Carter

I'm not sure we can put this solely on the kid. Anyone in sales knows if you wait until the customer is 100% sure to ask for the sale you're probably not going to get it.

I was also wondering when we were going to lose one, it's nearly impossible to not lose one or two. We also seem able to steal a couple as well, I guess we're still waiting for that this year.

seems to me we also have a couple of these wafflers every year. I think we still have the upper hand. If it's a toss up it's tough to go in a different direction. If he truly finds a better program for him, well what are you going to do. It happens.

If he woulda had a true change of heart, he would have decommited. While it is never good to see a recruit 'reopen his commitment' he IS STILL A SOFT VERBAL TO THE GOPHS! I think its natural after being at UNC, which is IMO a great campus, not to question his commitment, which was never a 'hard' commit where he said he was 100% to the Gophs. So this can't be considered as we lost one, as he is still under a verbal commitment to the U. And in no way does this mean he will for sure end up in a maroon and gold uni, but it shows he wasn't swayed enough to totally decommit.
I still see him being swayed by the early PT we can offer as well as a chance to play with his former teammate Carter and he will in the end up in Minnesnowta. Go Gophs

That's not what happens. They try to discourage the kids from doing it (as they should) and make it clear that they'll start recruiting other players at the position if they do choose to take other visits, but they don't pull the offer. Off the top of my head, I know Shaun Prater took a visit to Nebraska after verbaling with us, and still kept his offer. I'm sure it's true for other players on the team that I'm forgetting too, I only started following recruiting fairly recently.

Exactly. The other thing they have done is if a kid wants to verbal to Iowa but still take visits elsewhere, Iowa simply won't accept the verbal. They basically say, if you verbal to Iowa, you are married to Iowa. No other visits. They say if you want to take other visits, then don't verbal to Iowa yet. I wish more coaches would do this. It is, in fact, the exact opposite of a "dickhead" move. Most coaches aren't so secure in their jobs, however, and will accept even "soft" verbals. Iowa will not.

Reilly Reiff is another example of a kid who verballed to Iowa, then took a visit to Nebraska. Iowa told him his spot was no longer being held. Luckily for Iowa, his spot didn't fill up and he re-committed to Iowa after his Nebraska visit. He's a part time OL starter for them as a redshirt freshman.

Well sorta. They didn't pull his offer after he visited to Nebraska, but he actually wound up briefly switching his commitment to Nebraska before changing his mind again after they fired Callahan. Glad we got him back though, because he looks like he's going to be very good. He held down the fort well while Bulaga was out and is the LT of the future.

might help if we could actually back up our "promised PT"...i'm not sure what brewster says in recruiting or any of the other guys but if immediate playing time is one, there really isn't too much evidence to that. if price is from the same hs as carter, then all he has to do it talk to carter and find out the immediate playing time isn't necessarily more than a few downs here and there if that...

I never said they pulled his offer. They told him his spot would no longer be held. They kept recruiting others, he committed to Nebraska, then he re-committed to Iowa. That was my point.

I wasn't saying that you said they pulled the offer, sorry if that wasn't clear. I was just trying to clarify that he actually committed to Nebraska briefly (during which time Iowa kept his offer open, which is why I included that part) rather than re-committing to Iowa immediately after the visit.

A member from scout who is in charge of scouts Minnesota page said he talked to Price on the phone, and Price told him that he has reopened his recruitment and wants to make sure he has an even balance in his life regarding athletics, academics and support when he commits to a school. I take it Minnesota might be too far away from home for him which is understandable. Oh well, we still have a shot with him.
