This is a recap of Tubby's interview with Spencer and Grimm after the game. This is not verbatim, but it is close:

Tubby on the win…I want to commend our guys and especially our bench. They made runs at us and we got out in transition. I thought Rodney bounced back and Trevor played good. Mo Walker off the bench and Elliot off the bench.

Tubby on Gophers 2-3 zone…We have struggled man to man. We haven’t been a very good half court defensive team. I thought playing the zone would keep us out of foul trouble. So this was something we wanted to work on going into this tournament. You have to throw a lot of different looks at each other. UCLA isn’t a great outside shooting team so we knew we had to make them work to get outside shots.

Tubby on Andre’s performance…
He seems to rise to the challenge in these tournaments. He’s been doing it all year round. He’s comfortable. When a second guy is scoring that makes him more effective. We need to get Rodney making shots on the inside. We had good play from everybody. We took care of the ball, only 11 turnovers. Andre only had 1 turnover and 5 assists.

Go Gophers!!

While this year has pushed me off the "Tubby-train", there is no denying that this was a great coaching effort. The zone worked wonderfully, the rotations were effective, etc. We looked more poised, more prepared, and sharper than them at every moment. Great effort and execution from the players, and a truly well coached game.
