With both Tyus and Vaugh going to be juniors this upcoming high school season this day and age in the recruiting world when do MOST recruits come out with their verbal? Is it typically the summer going into their senior year?

I get the whole it is different for every kid but just curious on how much longer all of MN will be waiting to hear the final results for these two.

It really does depend on the specifics, but even speaking about kids in general -- there is no norm.

If you'd look at a consensus top 100 of the 2013 class today (kids heading into their final year of HS), I'd guess somewhere in the ballpark of 1/3 of them have already "committed"(i.e., verbal).

The most active time tends to be early on in their final year of high school, leading up to and including the early signing period (begins second Weds of Nov).

Because of changes in recruiting rules / timing of visits / academic standards, the tendencies may change... but, I would tell you the most condensed time of commitments is the fall (Sept/Oct/Nov)... however, it's all over the board.

Do you know of any sort of trend regarding a player's placement in the Top 100 and their commitment date? Like, do players higher on the list tend to hold out longer, while lower ones commit sooner?

Verbal commitment is meaningless at this point in the game. Way too early.

Hopefully they commit to someone soon. I don't want another broken heart. It won't be the gold and maroon. Basketball verbals carry a lot more weight than in football. For some reason I think we have little chance. Hope I'm wrong.

This is a little off-topic, but..........

Here's my Question - would you want Jones to commit to the U, if you knew he was going to be a 1-and-done? I've thought about this, after watching all the Freshmen get picked in the NBA draft.

I know that landing Jones would be a big "get" for the program, and for Tubby - but is it worth it to have him at the U for only 1 year? Personally, unless you are talking about a Lebron James-level talent, I'm not sure I would want a 1-and-done. I would rather have good players who want to be in school, and will commit to staying around at least 2 or 3 years.

Thoughts?

I'd take him as a 1 and done in a heart beat. Don't have to think twice about it.

Yes, I would. Talent draws more talent, an if a kid sees someone like Tyus come through the Gopher program, they'd be more inclined to give the Gophers a look.

YES, you could have him for 1 great season and when he is drafted other future recruits might see it and that could help with future recruiting. Another thing is a lot of talented players want to play with other talented players so maybe he could bring in some good players with him. I personally believe he can be a difference maker in college at whatever school he picks.

Tyus Jones - Minnesota looks a lot better than Tyus Jones - duke on his ESPN profile
