Great! But I wonder if this impacts Jeff's decision at all because he said a while back how he appreciated that they were holding off in other running backs just for him. I doubt it does anyways. Glad to have Rodney on board!
 






Welcome aboard. But beating out east Carolina for a 2 star running back is supposed to make us very happy? Ryan Burns is a bigger homer than Paul Allen.

Nobody was named in that tweet. I think it may be a loophole.

On another note did anyone know that apparently Rodney Smith and Melvin Holland are related? Had no clue.

Yep - stars and other offers is all that matters. Nobody has ever been overlooked. The coaches wanted him and that should matter way more than those other things.

Melvin's godfather is one of Rodney's high school coaches. They have talked about rooming together if they both end up at MN. 1 down, 1 to go.

He is an early enrollee but it was before he enrolled.
 

I'm pretty excited about Rodney Smith. Our staff seemed interested in him for awhile and we've been recruiting him hard. I'm at a point where I trust Kill and his staff and I don't care about his other offers (service ranking). This class needed another RB because Mr. Jeff Jones will not be in this "class". He won't be RS and Smith will. Jones will be competing with Edwards more so than Smith.

Smith reminds me a bit of James White or David Cobb. He'll probably play somewhere between those two weigh wise, but his biggest strength is his vision and his ability to set up a block. His big enough, he's fast enough and he seems like a natural runner.

He seems to have excellent leg drive, very good acceleration and vision. He is certainly not a Kirkwood or Williams but more of the Cobb type and maybe better acceleration.

Lets get him on the practice field and weight room and see what he can bring.

The 4* & 5*'s aren't coming here so get used to it. Jones may be the exception.
 

I agree with Bob Loblaw, his running style is eerily similar David Cobb. Displays great patience, vision, decent burst. Won't break anyone's ankles like a Jeff Jones, but effective with a good offensive line and deceptively elusive. Speed looks decent but hard to say how fast on these highlight reels as we don't know the level of competition. Certainly not elite speed.

I'm pretty excited about David Cobb, so by default I'm excited to have David Cobb 2.0. Good depth at a critical position in our offense.
