Thompson said splitting time between Williams and Smith wouldn’t be a bad idea.
“There’s a benefit to having a real 1-2 punch,” he said. “You’ve got a very physical runner in Rodrick. Rodney can come in for one or two series. That’s a good thing. I think you’re going to see the other kid, too. (Freshman) Shannon Brooks is a good back. It’s a good problem to have. They had a real good thing with (last year’s leading rusher) David Cobb and sprinkling in Rodrick. That’s good. It wears a defense down.”
