How do we get the media to start vocalizing what this kid is doing. He’s pouring love into Minnesota and his QB. I think our next step may not hinge completely on the media getting on board, but it does help. Fans follow the media, the more exposure, the more the fanbase will jump on social media.

In the longest span of time there arises a very few rare men who not only excel at the game, but show us what we might do with that platform. Mr. Bateman is one of those rare few. Thank you, Rashod!

I used to think sports were just a distraction from what really matters. A fun use of time and energy with no real meaning or purpose. Entertainment, recreation, whatever.

Rashod’s tweet show why sports really do mean so much to our society, and why they always have.

After 3-months+ of our nation being denied opportunities to connect with one another, we are all feeling the effects.

But being denied playing and spectating sports, with its unusual ability to create connections among people from such a wide variety of backgrounds, feels like it may be the most damaging to our soul.

I hope sports can return to our nation this month, and we can use the valuable connections sports bring more productively than we ever have.

My buddy who is the ESPN CFB writer just texted me and said he is speaking to Rashod this afternoon for a national story on players speaking out on George Floyd's death and continued issues with police.

Bateman is a rockstar. Must have had second thoughts when the SEC came calling....but stuck with Minnesota. Certainly shows an aspect of his character. And even though he shot up recruiting rankings....it's still pretty incredible that he was still only the 31st ranked WR by 247 (61st composite).

Never looked back. And hell yeah Morgan and him are boys. Those two make each other GREAT! Who could have ever seen that coming!?

I just read a ton of his twitter feed. Wow! What a great guy.

When we look at #13 - we're looking at an all time great both on, and off the field. Great kid - we're fortunate to have him.

I'm sticking with the Rashod "Greatman" theme.

(Stealing this bit from WroterGoph) Another player just removed themself from mjfelton's autograph request list.

Nah, he would still be starstruck and ask for Bateman's autograph because felton is a coward and an internet straw man. Then he'd come home, change his avatar to a pic of he and Bateman together and in the next breath make some inflammatory post about Black Lives Matter.

There is zero chance that guy would ever have the balls to actually speak any of his ridiculous positions to a real live black person face to face. Zilch.

Do we still have grown men asking for autographs ? Always have found that strange.

I would absolutely love some Rashod Bateman signed memorabilia in my man cave. That said I guess I don’t have a great explanation as to why that’d be cool to have. ?

I don't have a problem with signed memorabilia either. It would make it special to authenticate having met that player/person. But I think it's pretty disingenuous and odd to be asking the same players for an autograph when you have political/social views that they clearly would have an issue with if you expressed them.

I don't have any memorabilia, signed items, etc. Just not my thing. But if I were into that I'm not sure why political/social beliefs would need to be a factor. As a sports fan I don't see why those need to be tied to each other. I would hope that the player wouldn't have an issue either.

My $0.02.

I think it's hypocritical to be idolizing/putting an athlete on a pedestal when out of the other side of your (general your/you being used here) mouth you are openly against a social movement that is clearly a high priority in their life. Do you think any of these young black athletes would want to be doing a kindness (such a signing an autograph, or worse, getting a photo taken) for someone who is very outspoken against Black Lives Matter? I'm going to say HELL NO.

EDIT: Players on the Gophers football team (Bateman included) literally posted on social media saying "love and respect us all the time, not just on Saturdays"

Another example, do you think an openly gay actor/athlete would want to be signing an autograph or taking a picture with someone from the Westboro Baptist Church (aka "God Hates Gays" group)??

If a person cannot say "Black Lives Matter" and mean it and leave it at that, they have no business trying to get close to black athletes. Those who do have serious mental issues to deal with. Athletes are people before they're athletes and you can bet their feelings on this social uprising are bigger than any game.

Come on. That's a little dramatic, don't you think? I think your passion is clouding your logic.

Can I not say "Black Lives Matter" while also saying that that there are systemic social issues within the black community, that if addressed, would also help improve people's lives? If not, I feel you are too narrowly focused on what ails us.

Regardless, I still have no desire to "get close" to athletes.
