Per Paul Harvey:

15. Max Brosmer, QB, Minnesota

Previous school — New Hampshire

Max Brosmer is a unique piece to the 2024 B1G season, joining Minnesota for 1 season after a prolonged career at the FCS level with New Hampshire. Don’t let that distinction fool you. He was highly productive across 36 career games with over 8,700 yards and 80 total touchdowns. He was a 2nd-team FCS All-American in 2023 and performed well enough to earn a 4-star transfer ranking from 247 Sports. Brosmer will be tasked with providing balance to the Gopher offense and turning things around after the program’s worst full-length season under PJ Fleck since 2017.

14. Athan Kaliakmanis, QB, Rutgers

Previous school — Minnesota

Few QBs will make a list like this with a 53.3% completion percentage. Admittedly, I’m going with the expected impact Athan Kaliakmanis will have for Rutgers compared to the work of 2023 starter Gavin Wimsatt. Kaliakmanis will not be asked to throw the ball as much as Dillon Gabriel, and he will not have the pressures of distribution that Will Howard will face at Ohio State. Instead, he will be an upgrade and big bonus for the Scarlet Knights if he can simply open up the running lanes a bit more for Kyle Monangai.

Go Gophers!!

I think Athan is capable of getting it back. Not sure it was possible at Mn
Good for both parties he moved on.

I have never seen brosmer play. I hope he is better than 2023 Athan

All he has to do last year was open up running lanes as well, it's not like our staff told him to go out there and win games

Or this, at the 4:10 mark...

-schedules therapy session-

Late in the season too we had a TD against, I don't remember (Edit, it might have been a successful TD vs Illinois).

The play starts and dude next to me yelled HE'S FUCKING OPEN!!! while AK stared at a receiver ... he eventually hit him but the WR had NOBODY on him, still didn't throw until late.

Dude had a time to yell that, and a beat or two after and AK still hadn't thrown it.

It was his first look, WR was running laterally mostly, absolutely nobody to be seen, no way AKs view was even interrupted by the line. He just couldn't pull the trigger in the face of wide open for several seconds.

Coach's gave Athan TDs and games to win... he just didn't.

I don't know how you put Athan on that list if you saw that Illinois game pass to the TE ... even his good passes for TDs were just so painfully late at times.

Not that he can't improve, I just don't see how you put him on this list.
That pass was the worst pass I've ever seen in my life and I've watched dozens of Mitch Leidner bounce passes🤣

(Disclaimer: Leidner is one of my favorite Gophers of all time, dude put 100% into every Saturday even when gimped up)

This analysis all seems relative to the Knights' season last year, which created a really low bar apparently in the QB room. That's the only way this makes sense. Either that, or the writer didn't see many of the Minnesota games last year. I think both are probably true.

Our QB play last year created a pretty low bar too.

It did the exact same thing for our QB room, which motivated us to get Brosmer. I think he'll be better, but there's a chance he might be worse... Either way, it's not the same as what we had last year, and in my opinion, that's a good thing.

I think both Brosmer and Athan have good years in 2024. Hopefully Brosmer will have a great year. Change of scenery and new OC can work wonders. AK has a lot of physical talent. Needs to get his confidence back. So long as he doesn’t get it back against the Gophers!

PJ is a cautious coach. He doesn't have Randy Moss and Brett Favre to gamble with.

Brosmer should be able to throw a short passing game accurately and some explosives. And he's a leader.

The strong Gophers run game is the main event.

I think we were all hearing great things about Athan going through and coming out of camp last year, but no one is blitzing or hitting you in camp. Then we clearly saw what live-action looked like. I feel the difference with Brosmer is his clear history of success and the confidence that comes with performing at that level. I think he has all the physical tools to do the job but at the FBS level, but it really comes down to what you have going on between your ears. However, based on what we keep hearing about his continued leadership I'm getting less and less concerned with the mental piece and learning the offense.
