Rakeem Buckles FIU debut/Kansas-UL-Monroe game/Sat selection

13 points and 12 boards for Buckles in season-opening loss.

58 fouls called in Kansas-UL-Monroe game last night. Hope that doesn't become the norm with the new rules. Bills Self didn't mince words after the game.

SelectionSunday (1-0): La Salle -6 over Manhattan

Friday: Oklahoma +3 vs. Alabama (W)

Too bad....we needed his rebounding. He is the missing link for this team this year.

Buckles' 2nd game

Buckles gets 20 points and 13 boards in FIU's 74-72 loss to Youngstown State.

Damn, would have loved to see him in the maroon and gold. We'd be looking pretty damn good with him on board.

FML. No surprise, though. He hasn't played in 2 years and is only going to get better (and our cringing worse) as the year goes on.

Gorgei Deng said a few days ago that Buckles would be playing in the NBA right now had he not torn his ACL. I know Deng's no scouting expert, but still.

Happy for Buckles, but this is going to be depressing to follow all year. One of two scenarios seems likely: He looks like the missing piece to our tournament hopes or we play well enough to make the tournament and he's the difference between a solid season and a good one (ex making a run in the tournament, finishing higher in the B1G).

I hope he does well despite it being bittersweet for us fans, because he's a guy who's been through a ton of adversity and he clearly wanted to come here badly, and he deserved better from the NCAA. And if he continues to do well the media won't let the NCAA off the hook. I was more stunned and angry by the Buckles deal than the decision by the PF (whose name escapes me) to choose the Tree in a live streaming announcement hours before our opener. Buckles was a proven college player and there was little doubt he was going to be good as long as he avoided reinjury. How many guys in the C-USA were ranked 35th in their class and started at Louisville?

We'll see how the year plays out, but he could have a legit beef that the NCAA hurt his prospects at getting drafted. (Yes NBA scouts find you anywhere, and there are combines, but playing a year against B1G competition is certainly more beneficial than playing for a bottom of the barrel C-USA team with a new coach and new system).

Almost another double-double

Buckles 26 & 8 today with 2 steals and 2 blocks vs. something called Warren Wilson.

9 of 11 from the floor including 3 for 3 from trifecta, also 5 for 5 from the charity stripe.

Might as well get this baby to 100 pages, too.

Gophs would have been better than last years team with Buckles, less athletic but he would've brought the basketball component that Rodney just never had. Oh well.

Buckles with 8 blocked shots and 8 rebounds in 24 minutes tonight (foul trouble). Doesn't look like FIU has played any good teams yet, but they are 5-2 and Buckles is their leading scorer, rebounder, and shot blocker.

This thread is nothing but depressing. Is there a reason that we need to keep it alive?
