Banham Undergoes Successful Surgery

University of Minnesota women’s basketball head coach Pam Borton announced Tuesday that junior captain Rachel Banham (Lakeville, Minn.) underwent successful surgery for patellar tendonitis earlier this week.

“We collectively decided that performing the surgery during the summer was the best choice in making sure Rachel will be at 100 percent for her junior year,” Borton said.

Banham was named WBCA All-America Honorable Mention, WBCA All-Region 6 and First Team All-Big Ten last season as a sophomore. The guard was one of the top-two scoring sophomores in NCAA Division I and ranked 14th overall nationally with a 20.7 points per game average. She posted five games with 30 or more points and 16 games of 20 or more points on the year.

Wow, you'd think Banham had enough adversity already? Anybody any idea if this is
preventive or exactly what? Not a common injury I don't think? No news she tore it right?

That was my first thought too, what if Banham cannot play? Actually there's front court talent there-- Zahui, Riche, Hirt, Noga? But without Banham you've got Mullaney and...Bailey? Hedstrom? Maybe Noga at guard? Zahui better be all world, 'cause who's gonna score? Even with Banham, who else is gonna score?
