Dave Mona returned to the Sports Huddle table yesterday after a two week hiatus.

In recent weeks, Dave Mona asked Jerry Kill some of the questions that were raised earlier in threads on GopherHole. Dave peruses this site. Maybe the question you want answered will be asked of coach Kill.

I'll submit some questions later in this thread.

Go Gophers!!

If you win 2 Rose Bowls will you want a bronze statue outside of the stadium similar to Alvarez?

Ask him how come our 2 mill a year b-ball coach can't have a winning record in the Big Ten in year five? Supposed HOF coaches are supposed to win, aren't they?

If you're going purely off of pay-scale, Tubby's team is performing about as it should. Tubby is middle-of-the-pack now in salary.

Some questions....
#1: You seem to be pretty deeper at OT than OG, can any of those OT transition to the inside?
#2: Can any of the current OLB play inside, specifically Mike Rallis?
#3: Do you have any sets where you use an extra OL as a TE?
#4: What is the fundamental difference between an H-Back and a TE in your offense, do all of those guys play both?
#5: Is KGM a TE or DE now?

Last year you implemented both a new offense and defense. In doing this you and your coaches decided it would be best to simplify it from the version you ran at Northern Illinois. As part of this you also reduced the spacing between the offensive linemen and changed some of the blocking schemes to make it easier for the linemen to be successful. The question is what are you plans, if any, to increase the play book in 2012 to look more like what you did at Northern Illinois? Also are there any plans to move back to your more normal spacing and blocking for linemen that you have used in the past?

Lastly, if you do these things, what additional competitive advantages do you believe this could give you in 2012?

Coach Kill, what is better, unlimited pasta bowl and breadsticks at the Olive Garden or CiCi's Pizza Buffet?

Do you feel the team is where you want them in terms of conditioning or are we still way behind what you want?
Do you foresee more improvement on defense this year than on offense?
Do you plan on recruiting a punter next year?

Ask coach Kill if he is seeking a Middle linebacker for the last scholarship

Since Drew Davis reneged and was a middle linebacker are they targeting a middle linebacker for the last scholarship.
Any interest from the Gopher staff in Sam Maresh? Did not work out the first go around, is he making progress at the Iowa JC the last staff sent him too, and if so does the current Gophers staff have any interest in talking with Sam Maresh?

Can he give more details about how the 12 groups are competing during the off-season? Specifically what they are working on, even if he doesn't want to go into specifics about individual players? Has anyone else blown the doors off like John Christenson?

What, if anything, are they doing to improve the game-day experience and atmosphere at TCF next year?

Junior Day Questions:
a) What's the itinerary for the juniors invited to Minnesota's Junior Day? How many junior players are invited to Junior Day events? Are parents included in the event?
b) How many Junior Day events do you conduct each winter?
c) Are the invitees from a particular region, i.e., Minnesota and bordering states? Do you invite players from outside our region (nationally)?
d) Do you work with the other conference schools so that the Junior Day events don't conflict with one another?
e) Do you usually tender an offer or two to players that attend the event?
f) Do high school coaches attend the Junior Day events?

Recruiting:

For the first time in a long time, most of Minnesota's top recruits stayed home and will attend the U next fall. You and your staff did a very good job of closing the state. For many years, Iowa did quite well in recruiting Minnesota kids to the Hawkeye program. Do you recruit the state of Iowa - a less populated state (with a strong Midwestern work ethic) with two BCS schools and a FCS school and western Iowa can be argued is Cornhusker country - or do you put your resources in more populated states?

Changing a team's culture:

Near the end of one Vince Lombardi's famous quotes he said, " . . . winning is a habit, unfortunately, so is losing!" What are the major elements that are necessary in changing a team culture that has been losing or been mediocre at best for a long time?

Go Gophers!!

Spring Practice:

I've heard some coaches say that they really enjoy spring ball, for they spend most of their time teaching (individual and position). According to some of your predecessors, the regular season does not allow as much teaching because of week to week game preparations and time limitations (NCAA rules) with the players. Do you view spring ball as the teaching period? If so, what specific areas do you and your coaches focus on as teachers/coaches during spring drills? Does your focus vary greatly from year to year or does it remain fairly constant?

For some reason I would love to give Sam Maresh a second chance.

He can't talk about potential signees by name.

What's your view on the Wisconsin/OSU recruiting controversy, is all fair in love and war or is there/should there be Gentlemans agreements amongst rival coaching staffs for recruits?

Do you plan on naming captains for next years squad? And if so, when? If no, what is the reason(s)?

Coach Kill, what is better, unlimited pasta bowl and breadsticks at the Olive Garden or CiCi's Pizza Buffet?

personally, i am going to have to go with unlimited pasta, salad and bread sticks at olive garden. love those bread sticks they cook up.

1. Will there be a spring game this year? I heard Jerry was still not too sure, yet it seems like we should have the numbers now to have one.

2. What are his thoughts of having to share "our house" with an NFL team for a couple years and all the politics that may go along with it?

What would he hope his football team could benefit from in sharing TCF with the Vikes (heated field...even better equipment in certain areas)?

3. Will he need keep recruiting JUCO's so hard or was that to just fill in the holes that Brewster created.

Question No. 1 - There will be a spring scrimmage on April 21st like last year but no spring game. Jerry Kill has said he would eventually like to have a spring game but he doesn't have enough of the type players (bodies?) that are needed to do this. Also, spring practice should begin on March 21st and like last year; practices will be open to the public.

Question No. 2 - Personally I not going to even think about this until there is more clarity with the Viking stadium situation.

Question No. 3 - Hard to know the answer to this question because there are so many variables that could effect this but the 2014 class has right now 24 scholarship players and the 2015 class has only 11 scholarship players. I would expect at least 6 to 8 members of the 2016 class would play this year. As a result the 2015 class would then increase to 17 to 19 scholarship players.

One of the things I admire about Jerry Kill is that he is always working hard to find ways to improve the team. Therefore my answer is that if it will improve the team he will do it. Right now though, it doesn't appear that we have a critical situation like this year’s need for D-backs. We could use a few more tight ends though.

P.S. - Sorry, I just noticed this was supposed be quesions for Dave Mona to ask Jerry Kill. My bad.

Ask coach Kill about the TCU drug story and if he had talked to Patterson about it.

Any chance you want to coach a big ten basketball team in addition to the football squad? At least as a consultant?

It is clear to me that the team got better as the year progressed. Can you name something you and your staff learned during the B1G schedule that either you didn't anticipate or would have done differently, earlier? Was there something you took from the Michigan and Purdue games or was it more of the players getting comfortable with the playbook?

Being a long time Gopher fan, and seeing a fair number of coaching changes. Do you see this as your last job before retirement, or a stepping stone to a bigger and better school.
This being said, I want to see the present uniforms around for as long as Penn State's.

On the one hand, I like the question. On the other hand, you know there is only one answer he can give, no matter what the truth is...
