It looked like he was lining up as a defensive end on that play.

Someone mentioned that yesterday as well. I was on the other side of the stadium and didn't notice though.

I believe you are correct. He had been double teamed on the inside and it looked like we were dialing up a blitz. Hageman had been getting the "push" on the guard all game and being frustrated by that, he put his hands to his face. Getting a sack without your helmet is highlight material. Epic!

He has lined up at defensive end a few different times on passing downs the first 3 games. It's a good idea, makes him harder to double team when he's on the outside.

It was interesting that during the A&M vs Bama game (I think it was that game - I was tired and they were blending together) that a player was flagged for continuing to play without his helmet. He was also a D lineman that had his helmet pushed off by an O lineman, and he went and made the tackle and was flagged for illegal participation. I believe it was a 15 yard penalty? Not sure on the rules but either way I'm glad Hageman wasn't flagged for it! That was AWESOME!

Isn't his sack his business? Seems kind of personal for the 'Hole.

In all seriousness, it's great to see that they're lining him up outside some - not only for the team's benefit, but for his own as well. He's going to make a lot of money as a 3-4 DE in the NFL.

He was a DE. There were some plays where the DL lined up as linebackers (Cockran I noticed and others as well) and spied/blitzed

Pretty sure he should have been flagged given the rule but it all happened so fast that the official maybe didn't know exactly when his helmet came off and therefore did not throw the flag. As I understand the rule once your helmet comes off you must stop immediately and come out of the game for the next play.

Glad they didn't throw the flag though and mess up an awesome play.

They did throw a flag... for illegal hands to the face negating the stupid rule that a player must stop once helmet-less.

I saw the Texas A&M play live and the big difference between the two was the fact that the A&M player had his helmet knocked off (should have been a flag IMO) when the QB was still in possession of the ball, he then proceeded to hand off to the RB who ran a sweep out wide. The A&M DT chased him down from behind a good 5 yards from where his helmet was knocked off. The play took longer to develop and the DT had a lot more time to react accordingly.
