many have psoted they think this team will be better next year. someone needs to explain to me how. thye have no guards this year and still won"t have any next year. Andre Hollins will be a freshman SG trying to become a freshman PG.

Sampson and Iverson are not going to become all conference type players, Williams would need to somehow improve greatly to be a factor, Mbakwe is a good player but will he return and the 2 redshirt freshmen are now going to be heavy contributors. Don't see it.

going into year 5 of Tubby this team appears to be no farther along than year 1. some of this beyond his control. Tubby IMO a good coach not a great coach. every team in the B10 above them in the standings this year will also be picked to be above them in the standings next year.

not saying fire Tubby and I understand he can't recruit the same talent here as he could at Kentucky but year 5 at 2 millon a year and probably not better than a 8th place team next year is not what many were expecting.

I think they are better than an 8th place team, but they are not upper half, IMO...although I can see your point.

I agree PG seems to be a major issuse, if it is not sloved I dont know how they will be able to compete with the good teams.

That's not true, the Gophers are currently 9th in the standing and certainly won't be picked below PSU next year, not that that is any consolation.

If Trevor comes back, this team will be better than this year. Unfortunately, I see that as a long shot. Without Trevor, we won't a power forward on the roster. I agree with your concerns about assuming that Andre will just transform in to a PG, but I do feel he will be much better than anything the Gophers currently have. I think losing Trevor is huge though, the Gophers lost games to teams they had no business losing to in Tubby's first 3 years because he had no PF on the roster. It simply doesn't work to play a passive 7 footer (Ralph) or a skinny SF (Dan Coleman, Damian Johnson) at the 4 spot. We also still have no go to scorer which I feel like everyone has just given up on Tubby recruiting.

I'm hoping Andre Hollins will be very good. The only player they lose from who is playing right now is Hoff and he is playing out of position. They are losing all these games in the last 4 minutes of the game, so it is not like they are they are totally awful, they are just not able to execute at the end of the game.

All I have to say is that I hope Andre can live up to the hype. We are so desperate for a scoring PG.

Agree big time with this. I do think TM is a borderline NBA player at best, but it would be fitting if he left...

Where is Trevor going to go? Is he going to leave college early to go play basketball in a European "B" league? He certainly isn't going to play in the NBA next year. I'd be very surprised if he isn't wearing a Gopher jersey next year.

how does this change next year? PG is a major problem and expecting Hollins to come in and be the savior is asking a lot. I would say the coaching staff knows this as well considering the recent JUCO PG recruiting. coupled with the lack of shooters things IMO don't appear to be much better.

Well they say Oto is a very good shooter. I personally think they will have everyone back who is playing now except for Hoff. They have Hollins and Coleman coming in with another player who might be the JUCO PG Tubby went to watch this past week. Well they win the B10? NO, probably not, but they should have a chance to finish in the top half of the league.

Why are you talking about next year?

Tubby is a HOF coach but he made a mistake this year when Nolan went down. He needs to give his players some freedom to have some confidence on the offensive end. Why no minuts for Armelin. Just disgusting?

Armelin played in the first half and made a 3 pointer, which to me is pretty amazing and then Michigan went on about a 10-0 run while 4 of his starter were waiting to get in at the scorers table. By the time the starter got back in, we were down 12 points again. I agree the team is not playing with confidence on the offensive end of the court.

Next year, too early to tell but maybe:

F Williams - Osenieks - Halvorsen > they split 40 minutes
F Mbakwe (?) recruit - Walker - Dawson > ditto 40 minutes
C Sampson - Iverson - Eliason > likewise 40 minutes
G Coleman - Hollins - Armelin > yep 40 minutes too
G Hollins - Welch (?) recruit - Ahanmisi > 40 minutes

I hope I'm wrong, but I see that lineup (minus Mbakwe) having trouble finishing in the top half of the Big 10 next year.

Also, I agree with many others on here, I think the chances that Mbakwe comes back are slim.

Dynamic offensive player

we need one, badly. We currently don't have one, hopefully Hollins, Coleman/Juco PG will be one. Look at the way Morris single handedly broke down our D today.

Where is Mbakwe going to play if he isn't on the Gophers? He is nowhere near ready for the NBA. He can't score from more than 3 feet from the rim, and in the NBA he won't be playing against 18 year old boys, but 25 year-old men. If he was good enough to play in the NBA, we wouldn't be 1-7 in our last 8 games.

We have a guy who could become one- he played 6 minutes today. Coach doesn't seem to like agressive players-seems to prefer passive ones. Then in the post game he complained about the toughness of his players.
