QB running less next year?

I only ask this because the Gophers will have Cobb, Edwards, Williams, Kirkwood, and Jones on Jet Sweeps (or another Wide-Receiver) in the RB/WR position to carry it. There is also still the chance that Jones makes it onto campus (not getting my hopes up there). The QB's combined for roughly 700 yards this year. At face value, it will be hard to keep everybody happy there and have a decent passing game. In trying to "fix" the passing game, do you folks expect there to be a change in the role of our QB position?

It all depends on how opposing defenses play us. Hopefully, it is a pick your poison and we run at will with whatever they give us whether it is our RBs, WRs, and/or QBs. I'm guessing we'll be heavy on the RBs, light on the WRs, but have no problem letting the QBs take whatever they give us.

I don't expect or want there to be any changes in our offensive philosophy.

That said, you made a good point. Hopefully, more of our offensive weapons emerge and we run with our QBs less de facto. Hopefully Mayes, Edwards, and/or Harbison can step up and Wolitarsky and Jones continue to improve.

Hells no. They are going to pound the qb's into the ground next year. They are more expendable than this year because they could have potentially had to burn another redshirt on streveler. Especially when Nelson went down early in the year. Next year I think we see more qb runs...I think that opens everything up a bit more.

I'd rather see an offense with the qb throwing nicer passes and running less. Don't see it happening though.

Kill & Co. have run the same offense for decades. Further, running QBs continue to be effective in CFB. It won't change next year - nor should it.

If the QB's develop to where they can hit an open target they won't run much. If they continue like near sighted skeet shooters they will be running a lot. If you're a running team, the pass sets up the run (and vice versa).

Without a real passing threat we'll be running into a 8 man box...not ideal. But I am totally confident the passing game will be there. We have the best young TE in the B1G. Wolitarsky and Jones will start out the spring as the lead targets. The OL will see major improvements. This is going to be fun and with Jeff Jones and Mr. Edwards running, our offense will be night and day from 2013. You heard it here first. Oh yeah, pass the Cool Aide.

I think some of this hinges on how well our QB's can read the zone play. I haven't analyzed this, but it seems to me that we ran a TON of zone-read in the non-conference season, but much less in the conference season. We still saw designed QB runs (draw, "zone-like" QB keeps), but far less zone-read. My honest opinion is our QB's were having trouble making the right reads, and the staff pretty much threw it out before the Nebraska game. Thus, you saw move formations and downhill running. Later in the year, when TV would show replays of the "zone-like" plays (where QB and RB mesh), it was obvious by watching the QB's head and eyes that they weren't reading the DE...they were either told to give it or keep it. This is pretty common in high school, as QB's have trouble making the correct read. I imagine it's even harder for a college freshman/sophomore to do so, as the game moves at a much higher speed. Anyway, just my thought...
