Q & A with Royce on Iowa State web site

It's too bad things didn't work out for him here, I have a feeling he's going to be a beast for Iowa State.

It will be interesting to see (if he makes it to the season) just how much the 2-year layoff will impact Royce. I would imagine there will be significant rust to shake off. Hope he plays 'cause I plan on making a few trips to Ames to finally see him play in an actual uniform. ISU has a chance to make a huge jump this season, especially with a lot of the Big 12's upper crust (Kansas, Texas & K-State) appearing a little down this season.

I don't think the layoff will have a negative effect, he clearly has been practicing with the team and will get plenty of playing time in Italy this summer. When Hoiberg was on KFAN a couple months ago, he had nothing but good things to say about Royce and his work ethic. I distinctly remember Hoiberg saying that Royce came into his office and said that it's his goal to lead the country in assists next year.

Telling people what they want to hear was never Royce's issue.

Either was playing basketball at a very high level. He should be playing for MN right now. The kid needed either Tubby or Maturi to get him through his own immaturity, but it didn't happen IMO. Ultimately it is Royce's fault, but if what he went through had happened at mosty big time basketball universities, he would have never transfered.

I think we are done with this kid. Good luck to him. This MAN needed himself to get over his own dumb*ss immaturity.

I wish he would post some more videos of himself tying his shoes and doing push-ups.

Tubby wasn't in his way.

The decision to "investigate" him for 3+ months for a laptop that police knew he didn't steal and that was returned was the UMPDs. The decision to suspend him solely because of media perception & pressure was admittedly Maturi's. The decision to quit the team amid the bogus "investigation" and thus, bogus suspension was Royce's.

You can blame the UMPD, Maturi, or Royce. The reality is that all three contributed to the situation, but one thing is clear: If Tubby had his way this kid would never be in Ames, Iowa right now.

I agree, but I think it is in his best interest that he is at Iowa State.

I believe Royces decision to transfer to ISU was a result of a faculty commitee turning down his waiver request concerning his withdrawl from school in 2010. Had the waiver been given he would have been eligible for fall 2010. I believe the denial meant he would have been eligible in Jan 2011. Royce then made what was probably a wise decision to go to ISU. I don't think Tubby ever gave up on him but was hoping for the chance to coach him. I never heard him say otherwise. I like what Royce said in this interview especially taking the blame for ISU's misfit image. I don't think the concept of team chemistry ever occured to him while he was at the U. He will be huge for the Cyclones.
