Telling people what they want to hear was never Royce's issue.
Either was playing basketball at a very high level. He should be playing for MN right now. The kid needed either Tubby or Maturi to get him through his own immaturity, but it didn't happen IMO. Ultimately it is Royce's fault, but if what he went through had happened at mosty big time basketball universities, he would have never transfered.

Tubby wasn't in his way.
The decision to "investigate" him for 3+ months for a laptop that police knew he didn't steal and that was returned was the UMPDs. The decision to suspend him solely because of media perception & pressure was admittedly Maturi's. The decision to quit the team amid the bogus "investigation" and thus, bogus suspension was Royce's.
You can blame the UMPD, Maturi, or Royce. The reality is that all three contributed to the situation, but one thing is clear: If Tubby had his way this kid would never be in Ames, Iowa right now.
