The latter Mason era uniforms are far better than what the Gophers have worn in recent seasons. The classic look is aesthetically pleasing and particularly appropriate at this school with the rich history the U of M possesses.

Any chance somebody can talk Brewster into having the team rock these threads in 2010?



Also, I realize there was a similar thread back during the season so I apologize for the redundancy. I was unable to find that thread.
 

I personally like the new ones better.

The old ones are kind of big and blockey.
 

The new ones grew on me and now I like them better. The color is better and they look sleeker. Love the piping.
 

The old ones were perfect and the new ones suck. Other than that I have no complaint.
 

The "Mason era" unis are better if they used the new maroon and the current helmet. The block M with the thin black outline was absolutely terrible on the old helmets.

+1 This is the uniform we should get behind. I also want to see more Maroon as I am convinced the Gophers play better with Maroon jerseys and gold pants.
 

I never understood why people pine so much for the Mason unis. Calling them "classic" to me implies a rich tradition and history with those unis which is just not the case as we only had them for 10 years or so. If the old unis had Minnesota across the front and the current helmets I wouldn't mind, but the tiny ass little M didn't do anything to help identify the school.
 

I disagree, I like the new uniforms better. I also think the new look is much more popular with recruits and the old style hasn't been gone long enough to be retro cool in any way. Most of the ideas I have about the U of M color scheme and uniforms would never happen, but I have one simple request: Whatever shades of Maroon and "Gold" the university chooses should be used for all uniforms, including those of the band, employees, etc. Almost more importantly, the U should not license their name to any apparel company that does not use these specific shades in producing fan gear. It really bugs me that a bunch of fans can all decide to wear "gold" and end up with about 12 different versions of the color depending on who produced the shirt.
 

My biggest complaint is the all-white roadies. I loved it when they wore gold pants on the road during the mason era. I also think we need to wear BLACK shoes, I think that would make these current uni's better.
 



I am a fan on the new uniforms. I agree that the "mason" uniforms had more of a classic feel to them, but I like these new uniforms more. They are fresh and are a little bit more exciting looking but are not over the top.

I loved, loved, loved our uniforms vs. Cal this year.
 


Maybe they should go back to the Wacker era jerseys with the big M's on the shoulders.
 




So many people say things that are 100% based on taste and put it in words that make it sound like it is objective. Words like...

Several people in this discussion have taken the care to say "in my opinion" or mention that they personally like one uniform or the other. Thank you.

I didn't mind the Mason-era uniforms much at all. I say "much" because I like a darker maroon better and like others have mentioned... the little 'M' on the helmets didn't cut it for me. Other than that, I liked them okay.

I do like the current uniforms a bit better. Although I am not a fan of the all-gold home versions, I did like the gold over maroon look that the team wore against Cal, as well as all the other combos we have seen from them. I am not crazy-in-love with the current uniforms but side by side I do like them a bit better than the Mason-era uniforms.
 

New unis are better esp. maroon top/gold bottom home. no more monochrome tho

My preference is towards the new uni's (I like the all white roadies), though I would be cool with old uni style with the new uni colors, Block M, etc. Getting back to Ahli's original Q...

Unlikely since recruits say they like the new uni's and the changes were made for that reason (at least that has always been the impression I've taken from Brew on this).
 

I personally think they should go with the Gold tops and Maroon pants for all home games. That combo was fantastic and really jumped out at you. I can only imagine how good they looked on TV.
 

Well unis don't win or lose games for a team UNLESS they have an effect on recruiting. With that in mind I say keep the new ones for awhile longer and change as styles change or until we start winning at a level that dictates a winning identity. Personally I think the all whites are the best we have right now, especially when they get 'worn', think the end of the NW game last year or Purdue two years ago. I think they look sharp. $0.02.
 

I like the uniforms with the cardiac monitor M's across the front. Remember how sweet Darkins looked in those? I guess he was the only one who could pull it off though.
 


Leave it up to the team. If the players are happy with them, so be it. It should be their call.

WRONG!! The old uniforms are BOOOOORRRRINNNGGG!!! Love the new uniforms MUCH better!! Especially the white ones!!!
 

I loved the old unis with the black shoes (minus the little M - that was bad). Have grown to like the new unis, especially the all-white and the Gold top maroon bottom.
 

The all gold uniforms are absolutely hideous. As long as they don't wear those again, I'll be happy.
 

Gold Pants + Black Jerseys with Gold Numbers + Black Shoes + Same Helmet = The most terrific night game jerseys you would ever see
 


You may not like the black alternates, but they would look absolutely amazing on TV

Who gives a damn? Last I checked, black wasn't one of the University of Minnesota's colors. Reminds me of when the Wolves mysteriously added black to their color scheme so they could market the "alternate" black jersey.
