I was watching Purdue's training camp show on the BTN the other day and they said that Danny Hope's first recruiting class contained not 1 in-state Indiana recruit. I found that kinda weird.
We get so hung up here regarding our in-state guys that I am wondering if we are getting wayyyy to caught up on keeping guys here. I also remember seeing that Michigan only signed 1 out of the top 11 in-state Michigan kids.

I know the press is going to give Brewster a ton of crap if he doesn't land Seantrel, but I think people are out of their minds if you expect him to stay home with the schools that are after him. It's not that we are bad its just that they are that good.

If Terrell Pryor didn't even have Penn State in his top 2 how do we realistically expect Seantrel to come here?

Very good points. Can't argue with that. I think losing one guy every year is unfortunate (especially when they are at the talent level of Henderson and Floyd). But, it is much more distressing to see the bulk of the best recruits take flight out of the state year after year, which was becoming the norm.

Purdue isn't the model we want to follow. They have to recruit against Notre Dame, Indiana and everybody from out-of-state for the best players from Indiana and we just have out-of-state competition for Minnesota athletes. There also is a lot more to draw recruits to Minneapolis than there is to W. Lafayette.

I also found it odd that Hope's first class had no local talent but he's from Florida and has deep roots there so he's hitting that area hard. No other non-Florida school signed more Florida kids in 2009 so Hope is relying on their speed and year round football pedigree. From what I've heard in practice thus far, the Florida kids (Frosh) are much further ahead in most aspects of the game. Like they always say, you can't teach speed.

If Hope had his way they would move the school to Florida.

Also, do we really want to take our cues from Purdue? This is your argument, that we should be more like Purdue?

The Terrelle Pryor example isn't a great one either. Pryor is from Western Pennsylvania, which being from Eastern Ohio I can tell you is basically the same thing. You can get to his hometown from Columbus in three hours by car. Western Penn has always been prime recruiting ground for Ohio State, so you could easily make the argument that Pryor was in fact staying home by going to OSU.
