1. Must maintain momentum and focus.
2. Must get Coach Kill above .500
3. Must send a message to The Big 10 we are not going away
4. Must continue to improve.
5. Must beat the team in front of us.
6. Let's Make TCF OUR HOUSE

Go Gophers lets get to 3-0 in the West.

What was the stat last year, first 4 game win streak in 50 years? And we have a chance to do it in back to back years? Under Mase we had several years where we started very strong and the bottom fell out of the season. Came to expect it. This team feels different, although their last 4 games are really a gauntlet of good teams. Beat Purdue and keep the momentum growing. Agreed Husker.

Almost all the remaining games are must wins, if aim remains on winning the division. We can maybe blow the Ohio State game. The rest are either wins we "should have" (Purdue and Illinois) or "must steal" (Iowa, Wisconsin and Nebraska) to get or stay ahead of these teams.

If we Beat Purdue and go 3-0, and Northwestern at home handles Nebraska, and Iowa traveling to Maryland goes down. Its all predicated on Beating Purdue.

Bingo. We have control of the outcome of the Purdue game only. The other games are their responsibilities.

GO. GOPHERS!!!

As long as we keep winning, they will all be MUST wins!!!!!!

Purdue will have less fans at the game than Northwestern had. I the crowd continues to be loud as the bandwagon grows.

Not to mention that if we lose to Purdue, the media will pile on around the "same old Gophers" theme. We desperately do need these next two games so I don't have to hear any of that this season.

Not to mention the elephant in the room...bowl eligible with 6 wins. Dump Purdue, freak out at Illinois and it gets pretty scary. Gotta beat Purdue,
especially with Jerry making a big deal about winning "home games", which I don't subscribe to. Why is a home win more important than a road win?
What, we are supposed to lose on the road? No, of course not...just the other teams are. Baloney, just treat them all the same, home or away and win them all with no greater emphasis on "home games". Expect to Win em all...don't differentiate.

Purdue is a must win to differentiate this Gopher team from past Gopher teams who would get in this position and not have the discipline to stay focused and push through opponents that they were substantially better than. I feel the same way about Illinois. After that it's pretty much gravy. If they can get one win in the last 4 it's a good season, 2 wins in last 4 it's a great season, 3 and probably going to a Rose Bowl best season in 20+ years.

You could say the same thing about the Northwestern game. Or Michigan. Or any of the non-conferences.

Every week someone posts a "Must win thread". It is college football. Every game is basically a "must win".

Just WIN BABY! One game at a time....

When your goals involve winning division titles, then every game is a must-win.

The "same old Gophers" theme won't go away until we run off a few wins during that November stretch. If we get to 7-1 and then drop 3 out of 4 or even all 4 to end the year that theme will get hammered hard because we will have beaten all the bad to middle of the pack teams on the schedule but failed to beat the big boys (see 2008).

Should win, can win? Yep. Must win? No. Can't believe that the season is over if Purdue out scores them Saturday. Don't think we'll find out either.

Really, really want to be 7-1 going into our 4-game gauntlet. We'll be able to have the "playing with house money" feeling which could really help us play loose and confident.

Not to quibble, but I believe the Rose Bowl is part of the BCS playoff structure this year, so the B1G champs do not play in the Rose Bowl. Now, if you are predicting the Gophs will be in the final 4 of the BCS playoffs, that is a horse of a different color.

Baloney? Baloney isn't having the good sense to realize how important it is to make it nearly impossible for visiting teams to beat you on your own field because you play half your schedule there. Baloney isn't understanding how important it is to create a home identity for your alumni, students and other fans who must support the program. No, baloney is twisting the meaning of another person's statements.

The burden of "understanding how important it is" is unnecessary pressure on the players. We are talking smart people here..."impossible to beat you on your own field"... you say that and the players can't figure out when they are the visitors that you now have an inconsistent different philosophy/logical conclusion message in expecting them to win on the road??? It is not a consistent message if you expect to win road games too! How smart do you have to be to see that? Wonder or question that? Treat them with equal importance and win them all and your obvious statement that there are benefits to winning home games is also fulfilled without emphasizing it by differentiating it. Be consistent in your message to the players.

Not to mention the unnecessary pressure and negative resulting impact to win at home if you lose at home and the effect of that result. But somehow being preached nobody loses home games, you are now going on the road with confidence to win?

There is a teaching mantra in coaching: you get what you emphasize. Emphasize winning them all equally...problem solved. We are 0 and 2 in bowl games...how confusing is that message with no home team? Emphasize winning them all equally...problem solved.

Coaching is teaching, imploring, evaluating, and always pursuing perfection. Now, you may never be perfect, but striving for it can you will be close to unbeatable.
Games are only a measure of your preparation.
