Not to mention the elephant in the room...bowl eligible with 6 wins. Dump Purdue, freak out at Illinois and it gets pretty scary. Gotta beat Purdue,
especially with Jerry making a big deal about winning "home games", which I don't subscribe to. Why is a home win more important than a road win?
What, we are supposed to lose on the road? No, of course not...just the other teams are. Baloney, just treat them all the same, home or away and win them all with no greater emphasis on "home games". Expect to Win em all...don't differentiate.[/
Baloney? Baloney isn't having the good sense to realize how important it is to make it nearly impossible for visiting teams to beat you on your own field because you play half your schedule there. Baloney isn't understanding how important it is to create a home identity for your alumni, students and other fans who must support the program. No, baloney is twisting the meaning of another person's statements.
The burden of "understanding how important it is" is unnecessary pressure on the players. We are talking smart people here..."impossible to beat you on your own field"... you say that and the players can't figure out when they are the visitors that you now have an inconsistent different philosophy/logical conclusion message in expecting them to win on the road??? It is not a consistent message if you expect to win road games too! How smart do you have to be to see that? Wonder or question that? Treat them with equal importance and win them all and your obvious statement that there are benefits to winning home games is also fulfilled without emphasizing it by differentiating it. Be consistent in your message to the players.
Not to mention the unnecessary pressure and negative resulting impact to win at home if you lose at home and the effect of that result. But somehow being preached nobody loses home games, you are now going on the road with confidence to win?
There is a teaching mantra in coaching: you get what you emphasize. Emphasize winning them all equally...problem solved. We are 0 and 2 in bowl games...how confusing is that message with no home team? Emphasize winning them all equally...problem solved.
